I'm just curious... isn't that at least a little bit 'warez-ish' aswell? I mean here you get a patch (probably containing original content) that grants you access to something you haven't paid for...

Hmmm, I dont think so. Think of it as a 'mod' for another game. After all you are only adding some extra contents to the game and it still wont be the same as the true Black Edition Version anyway, as you still wont have the 'extra' DVD that comes with the Black Edition.

Not really its same as you modding a gpu to a higher model, just goes to show manu's screw us.

Im still 99.9% certain the 2 version are same apart from the dvd has extra movies ans bening scenes, there was never any mention of extra 10 cars only 2 cars, 1 being a tricked out BMW and the other a American custom car, im sick of all rumours, i for one bought mines on 17th not waited to 25th for black edition crap dvd extra.

Ok, ive tried this, obv i backed up my orignal file before i replaced it with this, i see no differnence on any screen loading game, still says 1.2, i however will later goto the menu option where you add cars to your garage and count the cars before and after patch.

The Back Edition info prelaunch claimed 2 extra cars, this seems to claim 10 extra cars.

Anyone else input their findings please !.

Just to clear things up.


If this "patch" is using protected files from the BW edition to upgrade the Basic edition, then yes it is very illegal.


Why would a developer/publisher allow someone to make a patching system so people who bought the cheaper game make it into the expensive one.


And no this type of patching isnt modding if its original files being used.

dabhand, who cares, you use warez so does everyone in the know, only the rules here dont allow you to talk about it, you think for 1 minute im dumb and dont know the real reason 99.9% of users are here ?

Again its the users been screwed by manu's IMO, if you cant add any info about if there really is any difference after this patch then BUTT out please and dont try some moral highground with me, if someone buys a game there are free to do what they like to the contents of the cd, the person actually distibuting the code is legally in the wrong but not the ones grabbing it.

EA know peeps wanted the game on the 17th then some will again buy the other edition on 25th, making them more cash.

Thanks to other user for info, i do have the legit 17th normal version and i did have that file already, but no clue if both are same.

So a 945kb file can do all that, seems to me it was there all along therefore you've already paid for it.

Anyone add extra cars to Midtown Madness 2, or other Need For Speed games?
If so was this illegal, is it illegal to play Desert Combat even if you bought BF1942?

Yeah, you can add as many cars to your NFS as you please. You can add more guns to your Quake, you can add skins to your Sims, You can add whatever you like to any game. But in this case, it's not cars made by someone from the community. It's original content made by the devs and NOT intended for use with the standard retail but only with the black edition. See? There's a big difference. These bonus contents are not public domain. Yet, you gain access to them through this patch! Okay, if it just takes a 900kb file to unlock all the stuff, there's likely to be not much of a difference between the standard and black edition, and the devs could have protected their bonus stuff better. But that still doesn't make this patch legal.

Who says I use warez, so by that statement your saying you infact are using warez versions of games.

But before you yourself go onto a moral high ground, consider this, re-read what I said and not what you thought I said, I was adding to a statement already said.


At no time did I say the file on offer was from the original or not, I said if it is then its illegal.


Again take your own advice.

To futher add, you said your not in the wrong, you can do what you want? Your wrong, even when I make trainers im technically setting myself up for prosecution as im amending code.


What you fail to realise is, if its a standard home made mod then thats fine as that does not alter any game code (i.e. the original game code that you bought with the game).

Now if the file you get is infact an original file from the BW edition, I dont know if it is or not, then you are amending code even if your overwriting a file or not, the games code your purchased the right to play is infact now changed and against EULA that you agreed to and various other laws etc.

As I said if it's there you've paid for it, whether or not it takes a patch to unlock it. I'd put money on the developers releasing something similar once enough had bought the 'Black Edition'.

Using a NoCD/DVD exe/image is also not as intended, but seems like some pick and choose to their own ends what's right and what's wrong.
