Civilization IV, graphic problem

Ive recentrly installed the civilization 4 game an I use the sd4hide program to run the mini image. It starts up but when its loading at the begginng, when it gets to intializing engine, the screen comes black, and after a few seconds back to normal, and then it says:
ERROR
Failed to initialize Renderer - Check DirectX Version and Graphics Settings,

I have made sure i have the correct directx version since it is the 9.0C and i dont know what else to do help please

Maybe it is a driver problem or a problem with your settings.....

Install the DX version that came with Civ IV & it should work. (There are 'sub versions' of DX that do not get into the main version number)
