Question Video Problems With Win XP

First of all if this is in the wrong forum a hundred million apologies. Am trying to help a mate. He has just recently installed an NVIDIA Geforce 6600 in his machine to enable him to play battlefield 2. The strange thing is that now he cannot play any type of video file whatsoever and his whole pc locks up totally and the only thing left is to physically restart it. He has formatted his system and reinstalled everything including the latest nvidia drivers (even tried playing video on the drivers that came with the card but same result) I believe he has got all the right codecs as far as i can tell. Windows media player freezes on all types of files including .wmv .mpg etc but games like battlefield 2 works just dandy!!

I am starting to think it may be the graphics board which is brand new by the way. His sytems meets all the requirements for BF2 and more than ample memory

Any ideas or tools etc i can try because i have been at it most of the day, not just on this but he had major sound probs that i managed to get sorted, but this problem is really and i mean REALLY starting to hack me off!!!!!

So thanks in advance and hopefully some of you guys will be able to help or suggest something (i think returning the card is the next option and replacing it with another)

Cheers guys

DABhand is on a distinguished road
I remember at the time 77.71 drivers caused video errors. Tell him to try an earlier driver for the card.

Nvidia has an archive of them.
