Question Cant play ff9 copy on PSX???

I have ff9 [pal], and i want to copy it, im using alcohol 120.
But when i play it, it loads up, says "presented by..." then instead of playing the opening fmv, it just goes black.

I've copied FF7 and Heart of darkness with no problems.
Im running xp w/ service pack 2.
Also all the discs where burned at 8X write speed.

Any ideas why FF9 doesnt work, and how i can fix it?

Most of the FF series is copy protected. You probably need a patch.

So square started to protect their games after FF7 then, and a list of protected games that i found is WAY out of date. Well thanks.

See y'all.

I don't like alcohol 120 for psx

I use cdrwin to make an image then fireburner to write it. I've found alcohol 120 isn't the best program for psx. Both are shareware programs. To my best knowledge square never really implemented software protection. It sounds like you just had a bad burn.

Very wrong SimpleSnake, both FF8 and FF9 are protected.
Patches available here -

which versions?

I have the original ntsc versions, never had a problem with em. In fact I've backed them up numerious times as i love those games and they get worn allot. Square might have done it when they became greatest hits, or with the pal version, but not the original US. I do believe every backup I ever made was with those programs, protection or no. Cdrwin has a setting for psx anyways.

Cdrwin was created for PSX backups and is a good burning software but it isnt capable of reading/writing Sub-channel data so it wont burn copy protected games.
I'm not which versions of FF are protected because i dont play FF but i do know some are and CANNOT be copied. Use the search button, this subject has come up numerous times.
I also dont know where you got Fireburner, cdrwin and Alcohol120% but they are not shareware. I think both offer a 30 day trial version but after that you must buy a SERIAL to unlock the software.

BTW, like Sidney said a protection fix for ff9 can be found at www.megagames.com

Actually I am at a total loss as to the reason you have for making that point Warlock.

The very first mention of those programs was by SimpleSnake in his very first post in this thread where he also stated "Both are shareware programs"

Why are you so concerned about this?

I am also at a loss as to why you would post the above comment attempting to correct me! Are you sure you read everything posted correctly??
Simplesnake said they are shareware, I simply said they are not. He said they work best for him with PSX backups. I said they will not write copy protection and will not make a working FF backup. Do you have a problem with this ???

The usually accepted definition of Shareware is -
"known as try-before-you-buy software"
(From Association of Shareware Professionals website)

CDRWin says - "All of our software will function in demonstration mode. The demo versions are fully functional except that all recording operations are limited to 1X speed. You are entitled to use this version for a maximum of 30 days. After this period, you must either purchase the software or remove it from your system."

Alcohol software saya - "Alcohol Soft Software can be evaluated for a free 30 day trial period with no limitations in capabilities, other than a restriction on the number of virtual drives available."

Fireburner even mentions the word - good heavens above! -
"The shareware registration fee entitles you to free platform specific updates for all V2.x releases and prioritized techinical support. This is generally good for 1-2 years of free updates."

Somehow I think your idea of what constitutes Shareware must be amiss.

ALL the above software fully complies with the generally accepted definition of Shareware - i.e. Try-Before-You-Buy

OMFG Sidney if thats the "definition" of shareware then i guess they fall under that category. All i am saying is they are not free and require serials to be unlocked, NTM they will not help him with his problem. Now i dont know the purpose of this but its got about as far off subject as it can get. Thread closed.
