With the DC modem you can always use a web browser like PlanetWeb or DreamPassport and then download saves from the net.

If you have your own save and want to transfer it to a VMU, you upload the save from your computer to some web hosting, and then use the DC browser to download the save. (using the URL www.yourhost.com/yourdir/save.vmi)

I wish there was dialup emulation software, so I could dial into my own computer (broadband) for internet access via my Dreamcast.

Either way, there's still no good way to simply upload/download saves via dc-load (ie. serial cable or BBA). If I want to write one save, I have to write the whole card again, using the kikuchan tools.

We're still waiting bucanero

Yes, I agree with you, right now there's no perfect dc-load vmu saves transfers. You've Vorlem, my VMU Backup Tool, and Speud's VMU Tool, but none is 100% perfect.

I have to re-start my VMU tool from scratch, but I'm really overloaded with homework and examns in my university right now. (it's my last semester so in december I'll hopefully get my engineering degree )

In any case, I'll do it sooner or later, just stay tuned.

I hope so! Vorlem would be okay, except it just crashes on some saves, doesn't support time stamps/read only files etc. properly (Uses vmi/vms instead of DCI) and other things. It's such a shame it never got an update.

I haven't tried lately, but would yours work for simply saving DCI files, via dc-tool CDFS redirection/iso mounting? Then I can use vmurip for ripping the files...

We really do just need a barebones save/load with nothing fancy... maybe you can do that first, then add all the fancy GUI elements and so on.

Also, what about a standalone command line tool to convert between DCI and VMI/VMS? The existing tools for doing so are extremely cumbersome (and don't preserve all attributes).

AFAIK, none of the available vmu app's support DCI files, you've to convert .DCI to vmi/vms before you can use 'em.

Actually the .DCI format it's pretty simple, although it has the data byte-swapped and has to be correctly swap-back before saving to the VMU.
For my future VMU Tool I'll work first on good save/load routines that support .dci, .vmi, .bin/.dcm dumps, etc. After I've that working fine, I'll work on the "neat" GUI.

About the command line tool for DCI <-> VMI/VMS, that should be quickly doable. I can't guarantee it, but I might work on it this week if I get some free time.

btw, if you want, add your Resident Evil 2 rip to the Dreamcast Rip Database!

Bucanero if you can do new version of VMU Tool with browser like speud's vmutool, without save list's. Loading time will be longer but a lot of ppl like to have only few save from your LARGE database. For egzample I have only 124 saves on my CD and I dont need more You can always make two versions with all (list edition) and without saves (browser edition).

btw do you know what i must (can?) to change in dc movie player test 2 by bero to off auto-scanning for files. I have it on my dream inducer and it always resets (to many files). There is a way - just open lid in good moment but i like to hex edit it to remove it. What string i must to search in bin file?

About a week ago I began working on the barebones for the hopefully next-gen VMU CD app... and to test the C++ classes I coded I decided to do the DCI <-> VMI/VMS command line tool I promised you long ago.

I know there are other tools to do this same job, but I think this is the first tool to handle both-way conversions (DCI <-> VMI/VMS) without any other parameter than source file (a DCI or VMI file) and destination file (for .DCI target) or resource name (for .VMI/VMS target).

Check this page http://www.bucanero.com.ar/verpost.php?id_noticia=181 for more info and download links.

Right now there's just a Win32 binary, but IŽll release the source code and a Linux version as soon as I clean up the code.

Please test this tool and post your comments.

Merry Xmas & happy hollidays!

Well no need to convert between formats for me (actually, might not be such a bad idea since Vorlem can upload them now?) but I've actually packed away my PC DC and serial cable, I just got a couple of 800 block memory cards and that's what I'm going to use instead.
