Patch for HL2 - No steam?

I did a search but only find whole downloads and weird cracks that don't work.
I actually own HL2 (US, 5-cd version) and am sick of these steam updates ruining the damn game, even after a year! Game gets choppier and choppier after each FORCED update, so I'd like to know is there any kind of patch (for the US 5-cd version) that I can apply right after installing the game so I can rid myself of the need for Steam forever?

You could just turn the autoupdate feature off for the games you own on steam.

Reviewing Half-Life 2´s Changelog it hasn´t been updated since 23.05.2005.
Maybe Steam itself gets updates from time to time (don´t know how CS:S and other source-titles gets updated because I don´t play that games).

So... what is "frequent" here at all ;-D

And, as posted above: You can turn off the updating process.
