Question Toca RD 2 & Win2k, know the problem!

Hi all,

The no-cd for this game doesn't work on Win2k. After messing around I've discovered the problem, but I've no idea how to make a permanent fix.

Is there someone more knowledgable here I could pass this info onto who might be able to make a real fix?

Or, as this is my first post, and you may not want to chat 1-2-1 with me (gotta be careful who you speak to! , is it ok if I go ahead and post a few debug details of what the problem is in the hope someone will try and fix it?

Cheers!
Skuzz

What was the problem you encountered and how did you fix it? No need for debug info, simply give us some general info...

HA HA HA !!! I'M NOT F'N CRAZY!!

I was trying to figure out why this was the only game out of 25 others that wouldn't launch. I'm also running win2k. sp4, fully updated. Everything else plays fine. But when I installed toca 2 and used the reloaded crack it just give me an error.

Now just to get it to work on win2k

Link? When did you upload it to gcw?

Hi,

I'll sort the gcw upload now.

Problem was, the patched exe had a hard coded *force function address that was incorrect. I zero'd it out and the program must run through a correct procedure to find the right address.

If you don't wish to wait, load a hex editor, goto '1fcc00' and replace 'B1 B6 80 7C' with '00 00 00 00' (MODS, if I aint supposed to post such info here, please just delete offending lines, not the whole post, thanks!)

Note: Go find the no-cd patch in the other thread too, that's the one I'm using.

Now go enjoy playing an awesome racing game, on Win2k, and without your 'original' disc!

b.t.w, The other, infamous, 'RestoreLastError' Win2k problem is actualy caused by XP using a different name for a function that is identical in Win2k. The SND fixer tool that's about just changes the name in the EXE to the Win2k version which is 'SetLastError'

Cya!

Does your new crack (or modified EXE) you have uploaded also work with "Windows XP with SP1"? I would really appreciate that, because inserting my ORIGINAl DVD all the time sucks!

SKUZZ, thank you very very much!! I did what you showed. But for the rest of you that do not have this working. Here is a walk through.

*reloaded* no/cd (RD2.exe)
XVI32 Hex editor

Open up the RD2.exe in the hex editor.

Then click search and find. Type in RestoreLastError into the text field. click search.

Then Edit>Overwrite String and type in SetLastError then click ok.

Now, STOP, and vary carefully look, you will see that it still shows rror at the end of Error. You want to click on the left in the hex area in the designated box for the firt letter that shouldn't be there. Then type in 00 for each letter that shouldn't be there. DO NOT DELETE THEM!

Now click search>find and click the hex string field. and enter in B1 B6 80 7C

Now replace these with 00 00 00 00

Now save the file as something other than rd2.exe . Then copy it into game dir name it back to rd2.exe after you have renamed the orignal.

Have FUN!!

SKUZZ YOU THE MAN!

This works for XP SP1 and SP2. and win2k. not sure about win98se or winme though.

I have a Problem with the Game.
The Crack works fine.

DTM Race Driver 2:RD2.exe - Fehler in Anwendung

(Sorry I have the german version)
I have the same problem with the orig dvd.
What I have to do?

If you have problems with your original game, why don't you ask the publisher and/or read the official support forum instead?

This is a forum about backing up original games, NOT about fixing not working original games. Your question is off-topic.

Actually this crack doesn't work fine.
Sure it allows you to run the game however you cannot get out of it without cntl-alt-del to kill it in program manager.
