If you are only interested in e.g. changing filesize of a 0 byte file you can use the tool from this site. Great tool, btw.

Why so you can fool many DC++ clients into thinking you are sharing more than you have?

Why else would you want this done?

And find the manual for the tool, its easy to read yes?

the manual is in russian
and i partially figured it out
but when i change the file size it also changes the size on disk
not like that pic
and actually i have a (non-file-sharing)program that needs a huge file size but my hard drive doesn't have enough space
so i was searching for it and i found this pic at a site (dcmagnet.com)
that linked to this pic and said that people use it for that
BUT i don't need it for that as i said

Unfortunately I dont speak giberish, what you said made no sense, hence why I asked you to say it more clearly.

Bonehead? Oh dear, perhaps if you match my knowledge of things or greater then call me bonehead.

But since you cant read the rules about flaming, I dont think you will be around long enough to see what happens to this thread.

Also when I asked you for more information on what your doing with the file, you got very very defensively attacking, i.e. protective as if you dont want to say what your real reason is and you cant think up an alternative to say why you need a small file that shows up as more.

So hence why I think its DC++ you need it for, and you seemed to realise what DC++ is very quickly.

Basically what I wanted after your reply to mine, was to know what you were trying to use (program) that way we could have helped, but with the way you attacked me im more inclined to think my first guess was correct. You have only yourself to blame.

RE:i gave enough information and if you must know what it is for(which should be obvious-the part about the size of my hard drive) i need a program(a mega-file shrinking program) to load a specific mega-file size to test it for a friend, but my pitiful hard drive can't hold more than 40gb,so i thought that theoretically if there was a file that the computer THOUGHT was bigger so the program would also think so and would "shrink" this file too(even though it's under the minimum size)

so far you've been a great help thanks a million!
and your very arrogant (i'm attacking you[protective]?,you're making comments about how i'm like this loser who needs to leech file-sharing networks,i actually happen not to use p2ps (although i used to)
but if you can't help the please don't post

As GLH says best keep how you respond to a minimum.. I only responded before due to your attack, im not gonna sit down and take that.

1. I assumed DC++ straight away, then I asked why else would you need it, as in what other reason would you need a small file and for what program. You took this as an attack when it wasnt.

2. Now its a bit more clear when you give us information on the program your using, even if you havent said what its called. But a re-sizing program will not work on a fake file since it isnt the full size. It will cause errors, as its reported to be (using the pic for an example) 160GB but when it tries to compress it only sees 988kb on disk so it wont know what tracks/sectors on the hard disk to look at.

3. The pic itself could be a screenshot from a folder inside a zip archive, where a file or series of files have 0 bytes to that size. Or the more easiest and more probably explanation is the guy took a pic of his folder of a torrent download.

Torrent clients set aside space on the HD with empty files that actually look like the full size of a file, but will fill it up eventually, so the 988kb could be what he got so far of the 160GB. Dunno what hes grabbing but must be something silly lol

But for the zip example, if you make a file 160gb big mostly 0's inside, and zip it it will compress to a very small size. And Windows Explorer can open these zips and look inside. (if on XP)
