Agp Vs Pci Express

hi,

guys i have the following system.

Intel 3.0 HT
Intel 875PBZLK
MSI 6800 ULTRA 256Mb Agp - 8x
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Zs
2 Gb Kingston DDR 400 Ram
120 Gb Sata
80 Gb Ide
Sony DVD Writer DRU 800-a
Sony DVD Rom
Sony Cd-Writer
21 Inch Flat Screen Hp p1110
Logitech mx1000

i was thinking of upgrading my pc , but i cant make up my mind , ppl say that my current rig is good enough for the latest games is that true.

i wanted to go for intel 955 motherboard with 3.2 ghz processor and a 7800 pci express card.

the only thing is i dont want to give my agp 6800 ultra , is there a board out there which has the latest chipset and also has agp .

do you think i should get a board with agp and pci express slots , there is 1 by msi it has nforce 4 chipset but is not 939 supported.

what do you say what should i do .

thanks

I would wait if i were you, this system is very good (Mine is worse and i love mine). The prizes of gpu“s are going to drop in januari/februari because of new cards. Wait until than so you wont have to spent as much or get a better system. Upgrading now wont give you much boost in games.

Waiting for prices to drop when upgrading, is alright except that if/when they drop something else better is inevitably released.
Also CPU's tend to change so that the motherboard you intend to buy when the price is right, won't support the CPU that's currently their latest.

Your system is indeed adequate, only the wealthy(or foolish)can afford to upgrade frequently.
Personally I'd save me pennies until my system wasn't cutting it anymore and then buy the best available plus the best value for money.

Sometimes a small percentage increase in CPU speed, means 100's difference in price. Same goes for graphics cards, the Ultra version of the outgoing may well be as good as the incoming first release.

To buy a motherboard with the latest chipset and have an AGP slot(if one existed), would be pretty pointless.
My point earlier about obsolescence is what upgrading is about, not only would you need a new graphics card, but CPU and RAM as the new boards mostly support DDR2, if you buy one that supports DDR it's already on the way to obsolescence.

Pentium boards only support DDR2 at the moment, AMD wont support DDR2 at this time.
