Post Dreamcast Rip DB

The original Dreamcast Rip Database is back online!

http://www.bucanero.com.ar/dreamcast/ripdb/

Note: I found the original ripdb.dat at web.archive.org and I converted it to MySQL+PHP. I don't remember who was the original author of the Ripdb website, but I belive that he/she won't mind that I've taken it back online.

In the Ripdb you'll find info on specific DC game rips, how to patch/hack them and if they work or not.

Are you going to add posting to it?

I also got the data file from web.archive.org and converted it to a plain text for my personal reference.

I can surely add the "post a new rip entry" function. I didn't do it before because I tought that DC ripping was R.I.P.

But if you want to add new entries or u think that other people would want to add new entries, then I'll add a post form.

I've just finished the code to add new rip info's to the Dreamcast Rip Database.

Just go to http://www.bucanero.com.ar/ripdb.php and look at the bottom, you'll see the form to add new rips.

I hope it's useful for those out there still on the DC rip business!

DCP, nice to see you here! I'm glad that my little recycling work is useful for the DC community.

Btw, you're more than welcome to add info to the database with all your PAL rips, your info would be very useful for sure.

Post Dreamcast Rip Tools for download

Just a small update:

I've added a whole bunch of Dreamcast tools available to download at my site. Very useful for ripping, self booting and patching Dreamcast discs.

I've tried ISORip and it works very nice, you can select the quality of the MP3 tracks (128, 192, etc) and it builds a nice INJECT.EXE . The only drawback is that it does not support DiscJuggler 4.x CDI images, so you have to build the .CDI with an older version, any 3.x or 2.x works fine.

I didn't knew about a private tool from DCF... I did knew about Megalex tools and they're good too (WavInject, etc).

I noticed it today, thanks. It's fine as is.

By the way, is VMU Tool ever going to get to the point that it will simply be able to load/save DCI files via the serial cable Vorlem style? Because that's really what I've been waiting a long time to be able to do.

Vorlem is good but it has a few limitations, VMI/VMS instead of DCI, doesn't support things like "read only" settings, and occasionally just crashes on certain saves... it's a shame it never got a second release. I have been waiting years now for a replacement :-) Doing it the cumbersome way with vmload/vmsave and vmurip and the ulgy, dodgy HKS DC Linker program...

There is a way to upload save using modem cable and pc-dc configuration?

There are a few tools by a guy named "Kikachu" that can be used via BBA/serial cable and dcload

vmsave.bin - dumps every entire VM to a DCM file
vmload.bin - uploads DCM back to VM cards
vmurip.bin - rips all saves in first VM to DCI files

You then use DC Linker 2.3 to manage DCM/DCI files.

So it's rather clumsy, and when writing back, you need to write back the whole card at once, but it can be done.

Vorlem can also be used as a more "elegant" solution, but as mentioned before it has bugs.
