Windows XP Pro - backup

I know its not a game but this is the only section of the forum that suits the question...

How do I backup my XP pro CD. Its starting to get scratched from all the re-installs I do but everytime I simply make a copy with Nero it doesnt work (cant install windows from the backup). How would I do it?

try using alcohol or clonecd.

WinXP is a bootable CD, maybe you cannot copy boot sektors with nero

If you use the 'CD copy' option with Nero, that should do it.
If you only copy the files from the disk, the boot sector will not be copied.

There is a way to do this, for instance if you slipstream windows and a service pack.

To do this you need the 'CD-ROM (Boot)' compilation and a suitable boot image.

I clicked the option to make exact copy. Then get errors when trying to use it. So you're saying it doesn't have copy protection?

I to have backed up my original XP disk with nero and reinstalled no probs everytime i have used it. (which is many times i can tell you). What CDRW do you have ? and as far as im aware the disk is definatly unprotected other than the CD-KEY. What version of nero are you using ? I know that some older versions can cause problem with some CDRW as in the update logs this is mentioned in detail. (you need to make sure you make an exact copy so i wouldnt recommend dragging contents off disk to hard drive and then copping with nero). I did it with copy CD option but clone is capeable of doing this XP disk
