Probems with Stella Deus and SMT: Digital Devil Saga

Having failed at purchasing a HDD for my V7 (I've asked all the stores, and it seems they don't sell HDD's in this country. WHAT???), I've gone back to backing up my games.

As usual, I had a friend back up the games using his PC, exactly like he did for the rest of my other games.

Problem:

Stella Deus- The game never loads, jumping back to the menu screen with every reboot (FYI, I have a Magic 2 modchip on a V7--reloading method requires restarting the PS2 after initial startup).

SMT: Digital Devil Saga- Also never loads, automatically entering the memory card screen and freezing there.

Is it that my modchip (Magic 2) is not up-to-date enough to load these games, or might there be a problem with the backing up process?

All other games work fine.

Thanks for any and all advice,

Do the original discs still load OK? If so, this would indicate it probably isn't the chip.

Also, why not try and order a HDD online?

Just a couple of ideas to play about with there...

I'll have to find out--took it for granted that everything would work fine as usual, and stored them in the attic right after backing up.

Just out of curiosity (more likely ignorance ), how would using the original discs prove if a chip is outdated? Original games, IMHO, wouldn't need the chip to load, anyway.

I could hit myself in the head, right now--should have thought of it. Anyways, could you recommend any reliable sites that sell HDD's if that's not against messageboard rules? Heard of a lot of people getting ripped off during online purchases.

A thousand thanks,

how would using the original discs prove if a chip is outdated?

Because the chip read's the same info regardless if it's the original or not. Once it picks up a)what type of disc it is (ie cd/dvd) it then looks for the ps2 hex boot code.

If it finds the boot code then it will use the chip to "fool" it thinking its an original.

It does this regardless of if it's the original or not .....if ur chip is working properly!

Jay 83, a million thanks for enlightening me! Never really knew how modchips worked until now.

Hi, lufcfan!

Jumping in and out of Asia and SE Asia--that's why I didn't bother to insert my country of origin in the reg. Currently traversing between Malaysia and Singapore. Don't usually stay for more than a year, though.

As for the originals, idiot housemate of mine took it upon himself to lend them to a friend of mine while I was out, thinking I won't need them for a while. So much for keeping my originals safe from harm. Fool wouldn't have even told me if I hadn't searched and found them missing.

Guess I won't find out until next week, when I have time to get them back.

But just judging from the make of the modchip (Magic 2), do you think it's getting too outdated to play some of the newer games? Ironically, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Predator Concrete Jungle, etc. work fine. Only these two particular Japanese RPG's are acting up.

A thousand thanks,
