Since I installed the 1.45 firmware, my ps2 gets stuck on the Matrix logo. I press all the buttons but it doesn't boot anything. I unpluged it for a while and plugged it back in and it booted the game. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like it might actually be a laser issue. BTW MI has an even newer FW V1.46

This only started happening after I installed the 1.45 firmware. I don't think it's the laser because the spinning boxes don't show up (as in the spinning boxes i mean that when you normally turn on the playstation there are spinning boxes and some lights then it begins to read the disk and boots). The playstation stays on the new matrix logo that is on the screen before the boxes appear and doesn't do anything. I tried without a disk inserted to see if i get the browser menu but it stays on the logo.

Press triangle & circle when booting the ps2 and check what the boot mode is set to in the chip config menu, set it to fast or auto.

circle and triangle doesn't do anything. I also tried to go back on my old firmware but it is not reading the disk. It gets stuck on the logo. I did notice that if I hold in the reset button to turn it on, I can play an original game. I think that doing this turns off the chip. Am I correct? It does not play a backup. Im guessing that maybe a solder point got loose. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Maybe you dont have a real MI. There is a clone of the MI called the modbo and the new v1.45 flash has protection on it that will basically screw up the modbo rendering it useless if you try and flash it with the new MI flash. Who did the install?

I did the install. I did it about 5-6 months ago. Its been working great until I did that flash. Sometimes it boots my backups but it's like 1 out of every 15 tries. Thats why I think that it could be a solder point. I bought the chip at www.consolesource.com.

I emailed the Matrix team and they told me that it might be fake that I have installed in my ps2 just like Spedmetal says. I sent them a pic of my install so they can tell me for sure if it's a fake or not. I'll let you all know what happens. Thanks again for all your help.

I have the same problem. I bought a slim ps2 a week ago. While booting it read Infinity v.1.39 so i assume(d) it had a Matrix Infinity chip. I read here that there is a new firmware, checked Matrix website and saw my version there too. So i couldn't go wrong right?? Well i upgraded the fw to 1.45 and now circle triangle doesn't bring the chip menu anymore. This Matrix logo pops up and the thing freezes. Anyway i can undo this upgrade? Anyone has a Modbo fw image i can use? Thanks in advance. P.S.: Doesn't this thing need to do a checksum before it upgrades fw? Shouldn't it have told me that the chip is not intended for that fw?

Thanks for the reply Spedmetal.
I wasn't aware of clones at the time, i bought it premodded. And if i had known i would have paid a 100 bucks over and get it with a decent chip. Now i have to pay that 100 bucks anyway (93$ to be exact, what they charge here in Istanbul - Turkiye)...
