What language are game .exe files written in???

G'day all,

I'd like to try and write my own game cracks,
but I don't (yet) even know what language they are written in
so that I can buy a self-study book on the subject.

So if someone could enlighten me that would be wonderful.
If anyone can also recommend a good book to get, that would be great, too.

This is a misconception amongst people, the exe's are all the same language, but started out as possibly VB, C++ or even just ASM.

You can get decompilers, but not all are the best.

Most are written in Microsoft Visual C++ 6, but not all. If you want to make cracks learn ASM.

That was my thought, and now im really into that asm
i thought it takes bout 2 weeks learning asm and then just change some code in the exe with olly...
WRONG, it does take a lot time to 1. learn ASM (W32ASM) 2. figure out how a copy protection works (i read some stuff about safedisc (but what about securom, ...) 3. really get it patched/cracked, and so on and so on
HMMM....
I'll keep on learning ASM and in some month' i'll start getting into that cracking/reversing stuff which will be pretty hard

Dont worry about securom. If you are comfortable with coding IAT fixers, it shouldnt be a problem. There is a trick with .text decryption, but its very easy, even Pedro's tutorial tells you how to get past it Securom 7+ on the other hand... They say it is a total recode, but I can't say anything for sure since I have yet to gather enough money to buy a Securom 7 game

Hmmm...just buy Project Snowblind it has Securom 7 and isnt that expensive, and BTW it makes fun, also !

Securom 7 really showed some fancy things, I though that after seeing version 5 and getting really dissapointed they would never learn, but once you get the obfuscation cleaned, dumped and loaded into IDA... Where did you find any russian tuts on securom 4.8X??
