Squall, if you search around you will find this has been covered many many times. I use RecordnowDX to burn my DVD backups but have also used Alcohol and DVDDecrypter without any problems.
Most PS2's seem to prefer -r media but newer models will read + media although it may not be the best for the PS2 laser, same can be said for any cheap media. Most of us here at FF use Ritek or Taiyo Yuden dvd-r, Both are affordable and the best to use for PS2 backups.
Like i said before, use the search engine, there's a ton of info on this

I also use DVD Decrypter, it's free and it always works.

And yeah, stick with -R media from reputable brands (ie TDK, Verbatim, Ritek, etc).

I've never heard of it, If your going to buy software then buy RNM DX or Alcohol 120%. Dvd-Decrypter is free, I would try it first .

skub is an unknown quantity at this point
I use Nero for all DVD backups, works flawless every time, no options to fuss with or nothing just press copy, plus it prints out an image file that I can keep if I wish. For PS2 CD's I always use Alcohol but no new games come on CD's so it's been a while.
