chip or softmod??

hey guyz,

I like to think of myself as fairly experienced in this kinda stuff but hav NEVER looked into gamecube but just bought one 2day out of the blue.... anyway i want to know from a few other ppl if they think softmodding or getting it chipped is better, ive looked at a couple of threads and is phantasy star online the ONLY way to softmod????
