CD-R Brands
I've just read through some older topics, and there was one that says, that CD-Rs with a lighter surface at the bottom of the CD-R is better for backing up dc games. But I've also read, that Verbatim CD-Rs, which have a blue surface at the bottom, are the best for dc games. Now what is right and and what bullshit?
I've burned some games now, all with Verbatim CD-Rs and some boots better and some don't. For example: Sega GT (with 11 tracks on the 1st session) and Street Fighter Double Impact (where the first 1st and 2nd session was a data track) haven't failed once to load, where games like Jet Grind Radio, Crazy Taxi 2 and Silent Scope, each with audio on 1st session and data on the second one, only seems to randomly boot (mostlikely they won't load but they all have at least once). Someone know why? Does it have something to do with the CD-Rs? Should I use another brand? If yes, what do you recommend? |

Hi,
Ive been using Verbatim CDRs for well over 3 years and reckon there the best on the market for the price. Ive used TDK, Unbreanded ones and allsorts but always find myself going back to verbatim because of the dark colour, the laser seems to pick them up alot better, and thats not just for my Dc, that goes for my PS1 and Ps2. Stick with Verbatium, unless theres another brand with a darker colour disc Dal |

Verbatim has the blue dye though, which some claim do not work in their DCs.

I'm using CompUSA 50-ct spindles of 16x 80-minute discs. These discs use a pale green dye and they work fine on my machine.

I think quality DOES make an issue sometimes. I use the cheapest ones I can find (www.cd-recordable.com), and get there 80 min 100 cd spindles for under $40...
But, I have also noticed that the better brands WILL boot better. I.E. Mitsumi Silver, which is simply the best out there.... |
