need to hack a locked .cab

before i get bashed for game related threads , this is game related ...

i bought the splinter cell 3 : chaos theory limited collectors edition and the installer for the bonus content is bugged , says it cant retrieve the installation folder .

so , i need to somehow unlock the .cab file and extract the contents to a temp directory and install manually , because ubisoft isnt gonna help us out that bought the game anytime soon .

does anyone know of a way to unlock a cab file , ive searched google for unlock cab , unlock .cab , unlocking cab , unlocking .cab , and nothing udeful came up

There is tools if i remember on another site the link is on gcw, ie6comp is what your looking for if I remember correctly.

If searching for google, look for "decompress .cab" or "open .cab installshield"

Hi GHOST_Dimz,

First of all, this is _not_ a problem related to backing up games or playing games from backups. Therefore, you should ask the game publisher/manufacturer or send a post to the official game support forum. (No, this isn't bashing; this is just what this forum is and isn't about...)

That said, I don't quite understand your problem with the installation; can you describe what you're trying to do and _exactly_ what error messager you get and when? (No, I don't have this game at all but someone else might have it and anyone might come up with general ideas on what to do.) Also, I don't quite understand what you mean that Ubisoft isn't gonna help; they simply have to, as you haven't paid for the game only, but for user support, too.

when trying to install a patch that installs bonus content , it says " cannot retreieve installation folder . setup will abort " .

so i have a look at the files involved with the setup and find theres a seup.ini thats easily readable in notepad so i modify it to say " md5check=y " instead of =n , and " enterpassword=n " modified to = y .

this works for the installation folder retrieval , but it prompts me for a password . this passowrd is not available in either of the serials included with the game ...

now theres a setup.inx file with the words password mentioned more than a few times , but after each instance of the words "password" are encrytpted characters which i cannot read since i dont code or know how to open encrypted files .


and finally i said ubisoft isnt gonna help us " anytime soon" , meaning i would like to get access to the bonus content before forever comes and they finally release a new working version of the patch .

[edit ] and i have sent an email to ubisoft reporting this eroror and theres been no reply for about 1 1/2 weeks .

Please tell us which game you mean and which UpdatePatch with bonus content you try to install!

sorry for the attitude there , didnt really even mean it to sound like that , but i explained it quite clearly and some people still miss my point lol .

i got the i6comp file and tried to open the cab with both protools.exe and 16comp.exe and neither extracted the files . so im pretty much lost with no help from the developer/publisher , and no way to extract and manually install the badass **** they got in the bonus dvd .

I think I understand now. Ubisoft added some bonus stuff, in a separately installable package, to this collector's edition but protected it with a password. Ubisoft doesn't want to publish the password (yet), thus noone can install the bonus stuff (yet), but you would like to see it _now_... Is that correct?

As for the "cannot retreieve installation folder . setup will abort" error message, I think it is trying to tell you that it wants to install the bonus stuff to the game installation directory, but the game is not installed. Is it?

no youre close , the installer is broken , it isnt meant to ask for password , i fixed the setup.ini to use a password , thats the only way to get the installer to find the install folder of the game SC:CT .

the game is installed to default directory , i even copied the setup files to 3 different folders in the install directory and ran setup , same thing , it a flawed setup file .

i know unreal engine directory trees like the back of my hand , and i cant get this thing to find the install . now in Chaos Theory there are 2 unreal engines , one for coop and solo , the other ( less enhanced verison) for "versus" multiplayer.

ive pasted the entire bonus dvd to main install dir , the system dir for engine one , and the system for engine 2 ... and the setup just farts on me .
