Hi acal3000,
If your problem is not related to the no-CD patch then, please, contact the game manufacturer or the game publisher or search around the official game support forum. Good luck, Joe

you could try disabling any other software running in the background, e.g take unnecessary stuff out of the startup by using msconfig in run, and unselecting stuff you dont need to be running. Then ensure you disable anti-virus and firewall before starting up the game.
Start at the lowest res in the game, and build it up to an acceptable level in terms of performance vs quality. I think your pc covers the requirements easily enough, so its strange that it doesnt run too well. I'm guessing that your graphics driver is up to date. Hope this helps.

Someone revived my old post, anyways it seems I have found the problem. It seems to be the service pack 2
4 days ago I formated my computer again and installed win xp without any updates and reinstalled mafia again and was working fine I reinstalled the sp2 and started to lag again |

Its the audio onboard, SP2 installs DirectX9c with sound acceleration set to highest, set to none or basic since you have a software sound card and see what happens.

Not only worked with mafia, worked with tribes vengence too that is a cpu killer even the loading times are more faster when I bought Tribes was so desiilussionated with the perfomance but now works I'm going to prove this with another games that used to lag like Gothic 2 and others man these onboard sound cards seems to be very cheesy |

I play a lot of games and have never had an issue with SP2? It actually increases performance on most games and the few it decreases is hardly noticeable anyway! I'm sure i read somewhere online that it only decreases some games by a maximum of 3%! And this is only a very few games!
Admittingly I do have a 3.2ghz cpu hence why i dont notice any decreases anyway! I'm also sure one of the games its supposed to decrease performance by as much as the 3% on is UT2004 and I play that without noticing it. And Mafia plays fine.

I must say that MAFIA has NEVER run well on any rig I've had. A few days ago I installed it on my 3500 A64, 2GB DDR, 6800 Ultra system and it was as bad as ever. I don't know why this is, as I have installed all the patches. A guy in my local PC shop said this game ran perfectly on their machine. when he ran it I was amazed at his definition of 'perfect'. It looked like a slide show to me. It all depends on how well you're used to games running. I personally only like to play with Butter Smooth frame rates. MAFIA and DOOM3 are the only 2 games that my system doesn't seem to like. I could try all the Doom 3 tweaks, but it's C**P anyway, so I won't bother!
p.s.This is a shop bought original, not a dodgy copy before anyone asks. Last edited by t.foster73; 08-04-2005 at 07:51. |
