to the Pros (have you seen this)

I have a version 10 which the laser (hd7) died.

Now I just my hands on 400c laser, and i measured this laser coil.

Coil 1 11.5 ohms
Coil 2 10.45 ohms

Is this normal for this laser? and can I replace this with my Hd7?

thanx...

Btw, I found this

http://gocybershop.ca/customer/produ...cat=194&page=1

They say that it can replace the la6508, has anyone tried this?

No you can not replace a KHS-400C for a HD7 or Sanyo laser in any version.

Your coil mesurements are ok, they seem high but should be fine. They are normally around 5-6 Ohms but as long as they arent under 5 your fine. The high measurements might be from your meter not actuall reading zero ohms when the probes are crossed.

That chip you linked to is only a partial replacement. Look at this http://www.richspsxparts.com/v9.html scroll down to the "LA6508 CLONE" this is a complet replacement. Or you can get an original Sanyo driver IC http://www.darkplanets.com/product_i...ype=4&prod=169 but you would only do this is your LA was fried to begin with.

Ok, that's weird...

I have 2 ps2 right now, one with a khs-400c and la6508 chip which is working system, and the other is a hd7 + la6508 chip which i think the chip gone bad. I swapped the hd7 into the khs-400c and it worked fine....so how can that be?

btw speedmetal, what do you mean a partial replacement?
and thanx for your reply.

The LA chip has nothing to do with what laser goes in what unit. The LA chips are in both the KHS-400C units and the HD7 units.

If you got an HD7 laser to work in a unit that originaly had a KHS-400C (or vice versa ) it will work but not well. The KHS-400C will act wacky before it finally starts to read the disc. You will hear loud clicks from the laser trying to focus and it will take a good 30 seconds before it will boot and it will sit at the browser screen while its doing this. Using a KHS-400C in a unit that has a HD7 in it will also wear out the KHS-400C very quickly because of the hard time it has focusing in the beginning of the boot process.]

Partial replacement as in you leave the dead LA in and attach the "partial" replacement. The other 2 I linked to you replace the whole LA.

thank you, Speed!

That clear up alot, just one more question... If i replace the la6508 with the full replacement chip that you pointed out, is there anyway to put the 400c laser into the ps2 with the hd7 originally? and have it working good? Thank again.

btw, when it tried the hd7 in the 400c ps2, the dvd spin up alittle slower but it seems to boot as normal, it seems pretty fast when booting and loading...how is that possible?

No, not that I'm aware of.

Hmm... no idea, luck I guess. Never worked out like that for me or any one else I have spoken with about this same issue.

Has the LA6508 blown in the first place? There is no point in replacing a chip which hasn't blown...

I think so, the la6508 in the ps2 with the hd7 is burned out otherwise that system would have boot with the hd7 in it. I also tried to swap the "burned out" ps2 with the 400c laser and it acted weird when i tried to boot up. The laser clicked like nuts...
