Well softmodding is pretty easy to do, and goes quite fast. Also there's no change to ruin the hardware of the xbox.

There are some drawbacks though. Some games contains dashupdates, that will update the MSDashboard.
If it gets updated and you have softmodded then you will have to do it all over again.
With a chip a simple EvoX reinstall will do it (sometimes not even that is necessary from my experience).

It's a little that and this. Use what you think will feel most comfortable.
Because none of them are really and hassle.

Some help atleast.

If you are not much into soldering you can always get a solder-less modchip.
Those can only be applied to xbox version 1.0-1.5.

About xbox live, some modchips claims to be "live-secure" but I am not so sure about that.
I have read about people that has been banned from xbox-live with the modchip turned of and stuff...

Guess the best way is to either have 2 xbox's (one chipped and one not chipped) or find other ways of playing xbox online.

yah, watch out for that "Live secure" crap. It is just a fancy way of saying that there is a switch on the chip to turn it off, before you power on the xbox and go online.

However, if you use x-ecuter bios, you shouldn't have much of a problem. It prevents games from going online if "xbox live" is clicked on accident.

i was told that solderless chips where a peice of crap cause like if you move your xbox the chip moves of the solder points and sits on the mother board and eventually screws it up

Well a friend of mine has a solder-less chip and it has been working like a charm ever since he installed it.
He have also moved around the xbox a few times and no problems at all.
If you just tighten it up enough there should be no problems.

But if you feel like "I'm gonna be 100% sure it doesn't falls off" well solder it then.

But I haven't seen any solder-less fall off or similar.
