Once you install a mod chip that you can't shut off via a switch then you can no longer go on to XBL. If you do have a mod chip enabled when you log in to XBL then you'll be banned.

"live enabled" means it can be turned off. It is just a description to trick people into thinking you can actually use it online. This feature was here since the chips first came out. If you tried to log online with the chip enabled and you are not using an x2 4981+ bios, you are probably banned.

M_S are using very intelligent techniqes with the newer games to detect mod chips, even if they turned off, for example, evox files being present on the hard drive. if you want live honeslt, dont use a mod chip, but it sounds like the original poster has banned their machine from live. |

what game would have that protection FiveHorse? I figure if it was so popular it would be all over the place. Most of the time a patch of the .xbe file by one of the various programs cleans up most game related problems.

ahh MrCaine it seems you probably have first hand knowledge of playing on Live,
true if there was a way to crack the xbe to get rid of the checks, then it would be fine, i may have to look into this.... can you give a few subtle pointers as to what to look for when searching for patches for xbe? |

MS only uses 2 detections. 1, modified bios and eeprom. 2, modified HDD key imbedded in the eeprom.
#1 can be bypassed by just turnin of the chip and using the original disk to go online. #2 can be bypassed by either logging on live after you upgrade the HDD, never before, or by editing the eeprom. MS does not detect files, especially if you have them on the "F" drive, which MS can not see.

I don't have any experience going online with Live simply because I'd rather spend my money on something useful....like anime. I was reffering to the default.xbe checks that can be moddifed with programs like Craxtion and the like. But Quall is right in listing the ways XBL checks your system for chips or hacks and what not. Those are the only two methods for checking by MS so far.
