rewrite drive

is it true you can't use a normal cd-rom drive to read dreamcast game and if so can you use the rewrite drive to read and write the back-up.

It is true that you cannot use a PC based CD reader/writer to read an official original Dreamcast game disc (GD-ROM).

You cannot read OR write a GD-ROM using standard PC CDR hardware. The data has to be ripped by way of serial or broadband connection - with the game disc in your Dreamcast. Once the data is transferred from the game disc to your PC, it has to be extracted, patched, hacked and downsampled so it fits a standard 74min or 80min disc.
