81 minute images.... impossible to burn?
Hi all.
I gotta question. I have 4 or 5 games that previously required a boot disc but I have since converted to be self-boots. Unfortunately, they are over the 80 minute mark. Is it possible to burn them using DiscJuggler? I know I need to ##### "overburn" with a maximum CD size of 80 minutes, but I'm still having problems... Are there any other tips you can give me, or will I be forced to make do.... (I suppose I could try to truncate, but I'd prefer other options...) I heard rumors that changing TOC to CD-XA might help.... My writer is a Plextor 1210A (12x writer if you don't know the abbreviations). Thanks for any advice in advance. --Collin M.-- |

Thanks for the reply.
You are referring to the reading, correct? My problem is I have taken an image and converted it to self-boot and now I need to write it. The program I use to convert requires the image to be a bin file with a cue sheet. I believe I have DJ version 3 but I didn't see anything in the writing section on how to make bigger discs. Last night I took Sonic Adventure and tried to write it after conversion, but its file size of over 82 and a half minutes kept telling me "Illegal block in Descriptor Field". I tried burning it three different ways: 1) overburn with TOC at CD-DA 2) overburn with TOC at CD-XA 3) truncated none worked. I'm using version 3, I have a CDI image over 80 minutes, and after having multiple games over 80 and ALL OF THEM not work I still wonder if it is impossible to burn these. I am using the Plextor 1210A with latest firmware upgrade (v1.08) Again, thanks for the reply. I will ##### my settings again. |

Yup, the image size can only be played with during reading.
Too bad. |

Try to remove the dummy file if there's one. Most programs for making dummies calculates an exact amount of bytes so no more over-data inserting available. When you make it self-boot you burned the 1-st session (under 5 Mb) + the actual game (with the dummy) = overburned. Delete the dummy and when oyu burn the 1-st session ##### the available space. Then make your own dummy and burn the image.
Good Luck

How do I extract the files? What program should I use? I know for a fact that a dummy file was used to make the CD (and that no room was left for a self-boot conversion). Now I just need to know which program I need to use. I have CloneCD, CD-Rwin, DiscJuggler, Nero, Easy CD Creator, etc. If I need another program, I can go get it.
I have a program that automatically can take a bin file or iso file and convert it to self-boot, so I would love it if I could somehow figure out a way to remove the existing dummy file and replace it with a smaller one, then perform the converting. (I'm using the Self-Boot Kit that I downloading at DCcopyworld for the conversions, in case you're wondering.) |

To extract the files, use either CDMAGE or IsoBuster. My experience is that CDMAGE works well for .CDI files but has problems with (some) .BIN files. ISOBUSTER works well for .BIN files but has problems with (some) .CDI files.

I'm sure that you will find that both Sonic Adventure & Ecco the Dolphin do not have dummy files. They had to be downsampled to hell to get them to fit on a 80 min CD as non Self-boot. To get them to fit on CD as SB you will need to down sample them even more!

No dummy files for Sonic Adventure?
Hmmm..... That sucks..... I wanted to convert Sonic Adventure, Grandia 2, and Street Fighter Alpha 3. That would suck if I had to downsample any more.... (I don't even know how to do that.) Are there self-boots of Sonic Adventure, Grandia 2, and SFA3? Just curious. I'm coming to the realization that my efforts may have proven worthless.... (If it can't be done, it can't be done....) |

Well, I'm using IsoBuster for Street Fighter Alpha 3. I noticed it had ALOT more files over 8 megs than Sonic did. Are these the dummy files? What am I looking for?
The IsoBuster FAQ was useless. It didn't describe DC backups at all. (Not that it should've.) So here's what I understand so far: +I'm supposed to use CD-Rwin to make a Bin file +I then use IsoBuster to delete the dummy files Questions: +How do I know which files are the dummy files? +Once I've deleted them, can I make a new Bin file? I ask, because I've never learned how to manually convert non-self-boot to self-boot. The DC Selfboot Kit does it all for me. I'm worried that if I delete dummy files or in any way alter the original disc that I won't be able to then use a program to do the converting. (The self-boot kit can add self-boot capability to ISOs also, if this helps.) Once I get IsoBuster to detect the contents of the Bin file, I'm lost as to how to proceed in making a smaller disc with self-boot capability. Please continue to offer me suggestions. Thanks. |

Dummy files are easy to spot. They are just full of zeros. Just search suspected files and use a hex editor to list through them, if you find no data then delete it.
You con however downsample Sonic Adventure to fit on SB disk. Try editting the ####tup movie file so that it is 30 megs smaller. |

If I alter files, will I still be able to use automated conversion programs like the DC Selfboot Kit?
In other words, If I use IsoBuster on an image and just save the entire bin file, I should be able to have it processed using the DC Selfboot Kit, correct? I think I will have an easy go of things for some of the files, but I'm a little unclear as to how to locate the Sonic ####tup movie. I do have video editing software, so it should be a snap to just make it smaller, but actually LOCATING the file will be a problem. Any suggestions as to how I should pick it out? (And by the way, I've never used hex editor programs before. Am I screwed?) |

I had all the same probs, but i found some files, that are not really downsampled or files, wich were downsampled but you can make these files smaller!
Find some files, like .afs, .adx, .sfd!! 8) Bye saiz tAz |
