bad chip?

just installed a duo2 into a v9 console
it will boot dvd movie backups and ps2 backups and original ps2 games but wont boot original dvd movies ,have been told that the chip has to be in mode 2 ie chip disabled for them to work ,only problem when i hold reset from standby, as soon as the blue cloud screen comes up the console turns off and goes back to standby is there certain points on the mb that controll this with a duo2 if so where are they or have i just got a dud chip

Well you shouldnt have to disable the chip to boot DVD's. You can simply put it in PSX mode by holding reset from standby until you see the blue eject light come on and some time you might need to hold it just a bit longer. To disable the chip you would do like you said already but your holding reset just a bit to long. The millisecond you see the blue clouds come on release the reset button or the PS2 will go to standby as you described. Or some times you can release reset the split second before the clouds and it will disable as well.
