Well I FUBARED....I toasted my xbox and now need help
Well I screwed the pooch pretty bad here. Since KOTOR II doesn't work right on my xbox I decided to see why. I found that the harddrive for reasons unknown is completely un-compatible with game for some reason. Low and behold my girlfriend offers up her xbox to me for use...well she has a gen 1 modchip (29 wires....ew) so I grabbed her harddrive, unlocked it threw it in mine...and in the process clipped my wires to my x2.3 lite...me being an idiot soldiered the wires together and then toasted my chip. To make matters even worse for me my gf's box bios don't allow for a hdd swap so her box won't read the hdd anymore since I unlocked it.
If anybody can tell me what repair codes 11 and 16 are I would be happy as well as a place to possibly pick up a new chip I would appricate that. |

Uh Dude.. Did you read that post on KOTOR 2?.. Its not really an incompatibility.. you have to rewrite an INI file for KOTOR2.. You can't do a straight copy and call it good.. Everyone has to do it. So my guess is maybe you missed that thread?.. I dont think a hard drive would be incompatible with just 1 game and work fine for the rest.
As for the error codes i'll go see if I can find em.. |

There's the list of the codes explained.. 11 - kernel - No DVD Found 16 - dashboard - Other files to do with dashboard / dashboard settings (specific dashboard error) I'd go buy your gf something nice and pray.. |

well she rarely touches the thing, that's why she let me fiddle with it. That's also why she isn't too upset. Besides she already got her engagement ring. But anyway if those are the error codes then I do think I fried my box then, but probably my mod chip. When I got code 11 the dvd rom was unplugged and I had not been able to re-lock the hdd so that would probably give me the dash error....Also where was the KOTOR II thread that said you had to re-write the ini? I missed that part evidently but I would like ot see it now at least so when I get my box up and running I can correct that problem. I'll go look for it now. The problem I had with KOTOR II was that during combat with any non-droids the entire game locked up. Sometimes when you switched characters with the black button it locked up as well. It worked fine on everybody else's xbox but mine and I figured it was something perticular to my box. I was running it via a dvd-r.

As I said though I have the game running of a dvd-r so changing those files would have done nothing because it's for people trying to have it read off the harddrive though at this point I wish I was running it off the hdd.

Ah sorry missed that part, well dang.. thats a bummer man.. Maybe after christmas the xbox's will actually be in stock.. I tried two big retail electronics stores and they were both out.. (this was for a gift).. But i'm sure all the stores that ordered a crap load to fill this last week of madness before christmas will have some leftover and you might be able to get some good overstock deals.

well I'm hoping I can get lucky. The only problem with mine is that the chip fried. I need to get an x2.3 lite and I'd be back in business and then I would realistically just need to get my hands on a new chip for my gf's xbox but that can wait a bit longer. Thing is the x2.3 lite is friggin out dated and I dunno if the x2.6s use the same wiring set. I may have a spare x2.3 lying around but I don't wanna cook that sucker by mistake.....I wanna know why it was smoking in the first place actually.....I know it wasn't the motherboard...at least I don't think it was because she still powers up fine and just gives me thew error codes and there isn't smoke now.

error code 16 means the dashboard may be corrupt. Right best thing to do is take the mobo out. strip down the xbox take all the crap wires out. Wack a new 2.6 or 2.3b in and boot it. Make sure the modchip doesnt touch the metal shielding of the xbox otherwise this could spark and maybe blow!.

well thanks Sean...you just informed me how I smoked my chip. Anyway does the multicolored wires for the x2.3 the same for the x2.6? the 9 wires you soldier to the lpc ports and to D0 switch and the like? If that's the case I just need a new chip with a new set of switch wires.

Yeah, I was sitting around figuring that out. I think what happened was when I severed the wires to the switch for the x2.3 lite and re-soldered then together I know I didn't insulate them cuz I was a little friggin paniced and wasn't thinking "short" but "hey if these don't work I'll have re-solder them again" and I think they touched the metal case. Cuz that;s when I saw smoke, then I just watched the leds on the chip blink off and never come back on again. The box still powers up without the chip but I get the error code 16 which is probably cuz I unlocked my hdd and never got the chance to re-lock it.

do any of you guys know if the new x2.6 chip uses the same wires that the x2.3 uses? Let me see if I can clairify....um...well I still have the 9 wires soldered into my xbox and I removed the chip from these wires. Does the x2.6 accept the plug in part of the old wires on the new chip? pretty much I'm asking if they used the same part on a new chip....that way I maybe don't have to go re-solder those wires in again.
