resistor/capacitor values ?

does anybody know the values of the resistor at point `s` onthe following and the capacitor immediately to its left and what function these serve. i think the resistor is 100k but not certain.

cheers dave.

alrighty there matie boy. Right do you own a multimeter? if you do set it to read ohms and get the prongs and stick it either side of the resistor and it will show you the resistance size beware of the 5% 10% tollerance

oh and resistors reduce the amount of current going into the circuit say you had 5 volts flowing into a 3.3v Led it will need to reduce the amount of current flowing in it otherwise the life span of the led will be reduced and overheat. so a resistor is put in place. If you need more info do some research on ohms law.

Man.... of all the places you could link to, why did you have to link to Console Corner!

Anyway the resistor is 100K ohm and the capacitor is 4.7nF.

i dont think you need the capacitor replaced, cuz i broke mine on my board, and my chip is working fine. i dont know about the resistance though.

Thanks for all your help with those,i`ve replaced them now. the restoration continues. my v7 will boot up to the browser screen at which point the drive stops spinning. the browser screen stays in place with the moving electrons for about half an hour then goes to black screen. all lights and the eject etc all continue to work normally. if i let it cool down i get the browser screen back until it heats up again. im thinking an ic is breaking down under temperature but dont really know. you guys are very knowledgable and i hope you may have some help and advice for me . many thanks again for you`re help so far. cheers, Dave in not so sunny cornwall. uk.

hi,

sounds like the ba chip has blown or it could be a laser prob. Or even both at this matter.
