Dvd +r's use to play fine now they dont...

I have a apple chip 2 on my ps2 for 2 years now and i havent had any problems playing any back ups either cd or dvd+r.
Now all of a sudden my dvd+r's that I hav old and new no longer load like they used too,it takes me about 45 rebbots for the game to finally boot and it makes clicking noises like it wont read the dvd.
Now I havent changed the media I still use memorex dvd+r.
I did notice that my ports on the bottom of my ps2 the vents that is are full of dust because my ps2 is always on the carpet,so maybe it might be dirty?anyone know what could be the problem? maybe i need to clean my laser?

well thanks again...

First problem is playing on the carpet. Thats a no no as it builds up heat and can harm your ps2. Dust is another heat issue that causes heat build up. I would say your ps2 has gotten hot and has damaged it but to be sure, you can first clean it out real good using some air duster and be careful not to get the mist on your mobo. You will probably need to take the cover off to get all of the dust out. Then try it again and post your results. Hopefully that will solve your prob, otherwise you could have burned it up.

Dust is the number 1 killer of PS2's. You should also use better media. Just because the media will load and play doesnt mean its good for PS2 backups. Try some Taiyo Yuden or Ritek G04 dvd-r. I think you'll notice a difference.
