Leisure Suit Larry Magne Cum Laude essentially BANNED in Australia
Sure it's old news now but I'm no less upset. They can't seriously stop a persistent person from getting their hands on it. Either through imports or that new Direct-2-Drive thing, people will get it. One way or another. I think personally that people should be at least given a choice as to whether or not a game is suitable for them. It's bloody fascism... Well that may be a little dramatic, but it's along those lines.
Any comment? ... Let's complain together! |

Hi Asimov,
While this is off-topic and I don't live in Australia, I agree with you. Such governmental restrictions are plain ridiculous. Perhaps, there should be ratings for games so that youngsters may not buy them. (Hell, can't you buy cigarettes as a youngster at the local shop if you know someone there? And, perhaps, cigarettes are even worse for your health than computer games with nudity and/or violence! [No, I do _not_ smoke!]) I would say, **** 'em! No matter how many people complain, they won't listen to you. See Germany for banning Wolfenstein 3-D and DOOM 2 (removed Wolf3D secret levels) because of Nazi references and the Carmageddon series (yeah! ) in several countries.Joe

Problem is in Australia we dont have a restricted to adults only rating for games, therefor any games that cant be toned down to an acceptable level accoding to the ratings bored get banned, although the unrestricted version of vietcong was sold in Australia even though it had a adult rating in the UK.
The Australian rating board does seem to be harder on sex related topics particularly sex crimes rather then violence and swears...think GTA3 |

But what about Manhunt. That was also recently denied a rating in Australia and off the shelves it went weeks after its original release.
My anger grows daily... lol |

IMHO Manhunt deserves a ban, it's just plain sick.

Well apparently (more fact) that GTA San Andreas will be toned down for Australia. I live in Australia and it sucks, it really sucks. I remember getting my hands on the original GTA3 and my mates got the "Cut" version of GTA 3. they were pissed off.
I agree we need an R rating for games!! I guess i'll order my copy of GTA:SA from the US |

I agree that manhant is one sick puppy of a game, but i still feel i should be the one deciding whether or not it is suitable for me or my family. The same goes for the sexual content in leisure suit larry.
Since leisure suit larry is censored and isnt utterly perverse i feel it deserves an M15 rating. Of course since i havent actually had a chance to play the game i wouldnt know how dirty the game gets visually. But from the screenshots, movies and things I've heard from friends I have come to the conclusion that I've seen far more dirty things on daytime television. Especially in advertising. I think I need to buy a stress relief ball to take out my anger and frustration... lol |

Thanks for the info Luciel but I think you're missing the point.
I was thinking about spaming the people responsible for the essential ban. But I'm above that. And besides I don't think they would get the message. Maybe if the four or so people who've seen this thread band together and womp them with oversized wiffle bats they would give the damn game a rating and let it be resleased. Just maybe... |

"The Pan European Games Information (PEGI) age rating system has given Half Life 2 an R(18+) rating. This means that minors are unable to purchase the game in numerous countries like Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. What's really interesting about this is how the game fairs in Australia. The Australian Office of Film & Literature Classification (OFLC) has yet to classify Half Life 2, but if the board follows suit from their European counterparts, it'll mean that one of this years highly anticipated titles is banned outright from sales here. Currently, Australia has no R rating for games, so game titles need to meet the highest rating (MA 15+) or they will be refused classification."
