Smile PS2 Backup

Hi, I'm new in this forum, My kid drop the PS2 twice , the first time it happened, the disk drive did not open (got stuck), so I opened the PS2 and fix it. Then the second time, it damaged the PS2 Game

I'm tried to copy the game to a dvd+r but was not able to (read Disc Error)

I'm planning to get a mod and backup all the games so that that kids will just use the backup instead of the Original (which we will store for safe keeping, away from kids )

Just wondering if anybody have used the chipmod from www.modchip.ca? acc. to the website. it's compatible with all the PS2 Version. I think we have Version 4. What's the most recommended modchip?

http://www.modchip.ca/store/customer...77&cat=0&page=

Thanks in advance

It looks like a Apple 3 clone or something. You can get cheaper at www.gocybershop.ca.

The guys here will probably burn me on this but personally I think you’d be fine with a cheap Magic 3.1 or 4.1 clone. Under $30 Canadian, that’s all I’d bother spending on a V4 machine anyway.

Thanks.. visited the website, they are a little bit cheaper compared to www.modchip.ca.

Whats the difference between the magic 3.1 or 4.1 clone to the Apple3?
How do u know if it's a clone or not? this is getting a little bit confusing LOL
Thanks in advance

There’s basically no difference for your V4, get the cheapest one you can find. Clones are when someone steals the code off of the MOD Chip and uses it to program and manufacture their own knockoffs. They may or may not modify the code, they may or may not use same quality parts and etching, they might use the same name or create their own name. For the most part, they work just as good as far as the Magic 3 / Apple style goes. With Magic 5’s I might worry about a clone because they are so damn sensitive. I think I asked before where to find cheap Duo’s and nobody ever answered.

Thumbs up

Hi got the modchip chip today and install it.... (Can't believe how small the duo chip and the pins to solder it to...)

Anyway, installed the modchip.... (took approximately 2hrs)..... tested it on the SSX3 backup I made, did not work (the broken SSX3 )......

Created another backup (Metal Arms) ... works like a charm

one more question, on other post, if the original is lost, basically u need to destroy the backup..... what if the original has bad sector.... can I still create backup from other disc since I still have the original, Just wondering :0

Will post the pics on the other thread

Thanks for everything..

[EDIT]

Used DVD Decrypter to backup the SSX3 - was able to backup and the kids was able to play the game again ..... going to start using DVD Decrypter from now on

I would say yes, you at least SHOULD have the right to have a backup. Especially if just the reading surface is scratched because technically the data is still there on the disk, even if you can't retrieve it without resurfacing. If the printed/reflective surface is scratched and you can see light coming through the scratch, and the scratch is over a data area then data is lost. Some will say backups should only come from your own original, that may be the law, but really who the hell’s going to know. I know I’ve posted for help to retrieve data from originals and got my post deleted so what does that tell you?

Hi, trying to backup most of the PS2 games, having problem backing up Simpson game.... getting errors too.... On other post, try to clean the surface using car wax or some said toothpaste too , what sort of cloth to use? When I try to do it on one of the games using toothpaste, it's leaving small scratches (small lines from in to out)... or Am I doing it all wrong?

Thanks in advance

..... i would stick to the car wax... toothpaste...you have to be careful which type of paste you use. because some brands have those pieces of pebbles orwhatever u call them, to scrub your teeth to make them shiney. so you have to watch out for those types.., actually, even without those rock-like scrubbers, most pastes do contain smaller-grain-type grains in them..
just use the damn carwax

That’s why they use toothpaste or I use Cleaning powder, they have micro abrasives, like sandpaper. The surface will look like crap but you are essentially replacing diagonal scratches (that your laser can’t read through) with fine vertical scratches (that your laser hopefully can read).

If you have access to an orbital car buffer, that works perfectly using car wax. I have resurfaced more than a dozen games using this method and not one problem since I discovered this little trick. I have even removed some of the deeper scratches.
