The only use I really see a private server fix is for LANs. Its a pain in the butt when you have a LAN without internet access (or dont want to give internet access) and the damn multiplayer server program refuses to run unless you give it internet access.
Some people dont want to be responsible for what guests are uploading and downloading to the internet via their LAN. Or maybe they are using their works network, etc. |
