I am definately struggling...Please Help

ok guys i just got my chip in the mail and installed in my xbox...

SPECS - vrs 1.1 xbox, xecuter 2.3b lite modchip, wire install

So here we go...I got the chip installed and everything seemed to be alright but i have some questions. When i start up my box i have the settings on ENABLE, BANK 1, UNPROTECTED (for future reference i have tried all combinations) The 2 led's on the chip shine blue and the green led on the switch is on...The xbox starts up...green, then orange, then green, flashes green 4 times and is then loaded to what im guessing is the bios.

It shows FlashBIOS (Cromwell 2.28 dev) on the screen and then my dvd tray ejects (all the tutorials say this is exactely what is supposed to happen)

Since there is already a bios on the chip i decided i would just burn the evolution x dashboard on a dvdr to load that. Well i followed the tutorials and created the iso with xiso with the files (evox.ini, default.xbe, bios folder, and skin folder) So i close the tray and it starts to load the disc, well then it says "No Bios update found...Halting" Well i thought i was installing the dashboard, not the bios, since my chip comes preflashed anyways (right?) So im not exactely sure what is goin on here (i am using the EvolutionX build 3935 with the M7 bios in the folder) Any Ideas on what is wrong?

Also, when i set my chip to disable, the led on the external switch stays red and my box tries to boot 3 times then FRAGs. This just seems wierd that it does that when it is DISABLED...i went back and checked all my solder connections and cannot see anything wrong with them..also i used the alternate D0 point on the underside since the top point was not working for me at all..no one has had a problem with doing that have you?

Sorry for such a long post but i have been reading for the last few hours and cant seem to figure out what is wrong with my xbox. Thanks to anyone that can help me out

Well, the chips come pre-flashed, just not with a hacked MS bios. For legal reasons, the chip comes with a free, completely legal to sell, linux bios. When you first boot up your xbox, that cromwell is supposed to boot. That is the cromwell bios which came with the chip. You must find a hacked MS bios yourself on the net (x2_4981_06 is prefered for your xb version). You then rename the bios to "bios.bin", and burn it to s disk in UDF format. Record now max seems to work the best (for burning) for most people. Anyways, after the tray pops open, insert the disk with the bios.bin (cd-rw i would prefer) and close the tray. If it doesn't say "no bios update fine", it should take the bios and flash it onto the chip.

After that, it should boot normal but be able to play unsigned code.

hey Quall999 thanks for the reply but its still not working I got the 4981_06 bios (256k) and i use bios manager to make it into a 512k bin file. I then use the dummyfile maker to make a dummy file (200 megs) so the disc will be read easier... I then use xISO to make an image of that folder containing BIOS.BIN and DUMMY.BIN. I have tried burning the iso with nero express (since i dont have nero 6) and also recordnow max...both burn fine but when i put the cd in the drive it freezes at the "Waiting for drive - Mode Flashing" screen It sits there for about a minute and then goes back to the "Please Insert CD - Flashing Mode" prompt.

I have burned onto a dvd-r (ritek btw), dvd-rw, and a cdrw. All do the same thing (well actually the dvd-rw does the "halting" thing) So im not sure what is going on here. I followed the tutorial exactely at Team X's website and this is what happened. Do you know why it freezes at that screen and then restarts? Any ideas of what to do? Ive been reading all i can and cant seem to find out the problem...

Also in regards to my first post...Do you know the reason that when i disable my chip, my xbox Restarts 3x's and then Frag's? I would understand it if it was when it was enabled but disabled does it mean the same thing (bad D0 right?)

Well, use record now max. Don't make an xiso either, whenever I did, the xbox never read it.

When you start record now max, make a "data disk". Click Edit, then choose recordning options.

If you use a CD/rw, make sure the recording type is set to "track at once - Closed". Then set the "file system" type to "UDF with Juliet", not that "Microsoft with juliet". If you use a dvd, make sure the is also "closed". After you burn it to a cd-rw, it should be fine.


Now, your xbox frags when the chip is disabled? Hmm, that is very odd. If the chip works, then all the points should be fine. I rescently got an x2 that would frag sometimes as well. But that was do to the black cord that connects to the chip switch. The only way to find out is to disable the chip completely and see if it frags still. I'm not sure what the problem is.

If all fails, you might be able to just flash the other bank with a set of original bios lol.

I got the bios to work now...i was stupid and was trying to use xiso to make an ISO file instead of the ISO 9660 format so that was my bad. It flashed fine and booted perfect... Now im just reading up about the dashboards and stuff. I have evox 3935 so i was gonna put that on there but i also have SlaYers vrs. 2.5 installer so i was debating using that to "upgrade" my entire xbox, what do you think? The only thing i noticed is that the dashboard and stuff is a little outdated on the installer now (i think its using 3931) so i dunno if i shoudl install the version i have, and then install the rest of the apps.

Also people say to backup your eeprom and msdash/bios before you install all these apps/dashboards just incase, so you can recover if something goes wrong. Well to ftp to your PC dont you have to have a dashboard installed first anyways? and then back up the files and then install everything else?

Lastly...yes it is very wierd and frusterating...my xbox works fine when the chip is enabled but when i disable it, it is crap and it frags. Maybe is a solder splash or somethin? Im gonna take it apart today and check for it...Also ]do you think it might be the D0 point? I dunno if the top point got messed up or not (it was a b*tch for me) when i was trying to solder it, it worked out perfect on the alt. point though...But doesnt the D0 only affect the modchip if its enabled? not disabled...

also what is your take on the M7 bios compared to the X2 4983 bios..I installed the latter of the two but i think the slayer installer uses the M7. Any diff. or are they the same thing pretty much?

You can't ftp to the xbox without a dash. However, you can boot something like evolutionX off of a disk. So, if you mess up your HDD, you can boot from a disk, ftp, and replace. I would make a backup if I were you. Also, slayers just copies files off the disk to a folder on the HDD. If you didn't ugrade your HDD, then use E (about 4-5gb). You can browse the contents of the disk (D) and copy the file folders off directly if you want. I would not downgrade dashboards. Especially evox if you plan on using trainers.

I prefer 4981 because 4983 doesn't work with xbtool. So, I cannot change the boot logo color, or what dash the xbox boots to by name.

M7, well, x2 has in-game reset, so that is why i use that. Never really looked at m7 though, but I know that it doesn;t have IGR included in the bios.
