Grand Theft Auto three PC backup -how to?
I have done some reading on these forums and downloaded utilities etc but I'm still a bit fuzzy as to how I go about backing up my GTAIII PC versiono playstation. I know it has safedisc v2 protection. Can I just use Nero V.6.0 to make a backup to cd (using cd copy)? What settings? Or will I need burning software that creates a bin file to patch it? Perhaps my pioneer 106D DVD burner can copy the disc without any other intervention?
P.S This is the first time I've been back to these forums for many years. I used to come here a lot back in the days of playstation 1... I knew a lot more too but things have probably changed. It's good to be back. Thank any one who gives me a few helpful hints. |

Simply use Clone CD, and copy as a protected CD game, it may take like an hour to create the image, but be patient, it´s very simple.

You need a cd-burner able to do correct efm encoding.
In one of the sticky-threads is a link to a list of burners able to do that. Please take a look!

When you update to v1.1 of GTA3 the copy protection is removed from the exe. There was already a thread on the forum detailing how to slipstream the update into the install - search for 'i6comp'
Once you slipstream it, when you install the game it'll already be patched to v1.1 and you will be able to run the game no problem.

SafeDisc 2 read my backup guide, like gh0sth@cker says the update removes the original SafeDisc protection. Still checks for audio cd if you not have the right audio files installed in the harddriver!

ByteMare, sorry I am wanting to backup a PC version (not playstation).
Krondike, reading your guide it seems Alcohol 120 is the best solution to my problem (but that presents another problem - $$ to purchase the software). gh0sth@cker, you suggest I "update to v1.1 of GTA3". Does this involve using i6comp to replace the gta.exe in cab2 file? Most importantly, where do I obtain the update "GTA3 v1.1" from? Do you mean patch 1.1? Please explain to me if you can the GTA update. Thanx |

If you want to update to v1.1, just go to the official website and download the patch to 1.1. This will replace the exe with the new updated one.
Then the protection is removed. If you wish you slipstream the update into the install (so that you dont have to apply the patch after you install it each time), then use i6comp to replace the old gta3.exe with the new one in the cabinet file. Whether or not you want to go to this effort is up to you.
