Wierd u should say that. I had exactly the same thing from my Version 9. The buzzing sound is the laser which when u flash up moves to the centre of the dvd drive, hits a microswitch and moves back to start read position. What mine was doing was ignoring the microswitch and carrying on trying to move to the centre of the dvd drive. The sound is the plastic teeth grinding over the wormdrive at the side of the laser.

Unfortunately I have no cure for this. I took the lid off of the ps2 and the dvd drive and watched what was happening, found that after 3 seconds of buzzing it start to load something up so put up with it for a few days. Now for some unexplainable reason it's not doing it any more.

Sped metal suggested it could be a damaged Reset/eject bable so if you've had yrs apart recently it could be worth stripping and checking out. Apart from that I can't be any help.

Regards

Wierd!!!

Well mine has started doing it again so time to strip down and find the cause.

As for yours, take it back and demand a replacement!!

Good Luck!

Funny thing is - it IS EB's responsibility. You bought a FAULTY product from THEM! They HAVE to change it. In the UK, by law they'd have to under the Sales of Goods act. Whether it's the same in the U.S/Canada/Australia, I don't know...

If you have the box and packingmaterial it should be enough. They should take it back and give you a new unit. If they demand the plasticbags too they must be nuts. If they say that the buzzing sound is a normal ps2 sound they shouldn't sell ps2's

Even if it is Sony that have the warranty it still is the store the buyer turns to.
If I go to a store and buy a TV brand Philips and it go faulty after say 5 months, I'm not sending it to Philips myself, I will go back to the store I bought it in and report the fault. They take it back and sends it to philips and then notify my when they got it back from them.
If a unit I buy here is questionable function on they normally give me a new unit without questions.
It works like that in sweden atleast.
