Do a search for Ritek and you should come up with a lot of answers.

Here is a thread you can check out that is relative to your quest for media!
As already mentioned by TD, Ritek is one of the best brands and not bad in price either at the moment.

I've been using Memorex +R, just ran out of disks so I firmware hacked my Lite-on so it's now capable of -R (lite-on didn't pay the lisencing fees on this model to use -R so it was just a firmware issue).

Now I bought Memorex -R media, know Memorex is high quality. I know you guys highly reccomend Ridata, but I should be ok with the Memorex right? I mean there +R's work great in my PS2 and the -R work now too, so if it' aint broken don't fix it right, or not?

Another media question, when backup up PS2 CD games is it better to use a slower write speed than my burners 52x max? If so whats an optimal speed to set it at, or does it not matter.

added

Yeah I had this crappy media from Staples and I thought that was the problem, cuz my PS2 tweaks out and makes a ton of noise when it's reading from CD's but it seems no different with nice Memorex CD's burned at 24x. Whats the problem, or is the PS2 just noisy, I'm affraid of wearing out it's lazer witch is known to be weak.

We recommend Ritek media simply cause of its dark purple surface and Its better for the laser. If the dye is darker = easier for the laser to read, which also = less wear on the laser. This is what we recommend for game back ups. For DVD back ups, most DVD media is ok. I personally use Ritek for everything.

And what about for CD-R's, I hear the damned PS2 freaking out when I play using a CD-R, particularly on this game Galactic Wrestling. Any idea why?

"Or Not" unfortunately. Just because you can get a brand of dvd-r or +r to read in your ps2. It doesn't mean its doing your ps2 laser any good.

The reason everyone recommends Ritek dye based dvd-r is that these cause the minimum amount of wear to the ps2 laser, maximising the lifespan of yr ps2.

What works fine now might not be so fine in 6 months time!

And as for what cdr media to use, Verbatim datalife plus cdr's every time.

Regards

Just for sake of argument... My memorex DVD-R's actually have a purple bottom and I've always known there CD-R's to be good, does anyone have any experience with them on PS2, is there really that big of a difference?

Yeah, I don't use anything other than Ritek DVD-R or Verbatim DataLife PLUS CD-R.

Then how would one know wether Memorex isn't an acceptable format? Is there a way to test it or is there a media guide?
