USB-Serial adapter for ripping GD-roms

Does anyone know if you can use a USB-Serial adapter with the DC coder cables in order to rip a GD-rom through a USB port. If it were to work you should be able to rip a full GD-rom in about 2.5 hours instead of the normal 24 hrs.
If someone knows if it will work please let me know and also let me know how you setup TerraTerm to use it.
Belkin makes a USB-Serial hub for about $50
