Yeah you can uninstall. You need some Desolder Braid and just take the solder off with that, then just lift the chip off and resolder another.
Don't get rid of the V7. Keep it and just install a Matrix Infinity. There's no need to upgrade - so save the extra cash and get a HDD and HD Loader.

lufcfan - you convinced me...i did the homework and found that it would be more expensive to get a new PS2 (v9 or v10) and getting it modchiped and doing the romero mod would cost more than replacing the chip.
Another plus is that everyone here says that the v7 is ultra relaible. I'll now have save the cash to get a new chip, network adapter, HDD and find someone that's selling HD Loader in Australia (the price converted from GBP is around about $75AUD which includes shipping) |

OMG old post! Anyway yeah I agree with lufcfan, just have and installer un-install your old chip and keep the V7, its a very good version. Consider Shadowknyght ( http://cyber-mag.com/station/ ) he is in OZ. Also the Magic V is a great chip if you want to go that route, infinity is very good too!

This is probably a stupid question but I didn’t read anyone say they tried to boot their V7 Apple by powering on with the eject button, works for other protected games, never played Splinter Cell myself. This is Apple Pro chip, right?
