Help w/ DVDXCOPY Platinum
Hopefully this is a common problem that has an easy solution.
My burner is a Pioneer DVR-107 and the DVD-R's i'm using are made by Imation. When I backup my original DVD's with DVDXCOPY Platinum (Simple or Xpress mode) I just check the box for "ENTIRE DISC" and hit START. It then reads the DVD and prompts for a blank to be inserted when necessary. It seems as though I have no control over the speed at which it burns, which might be my problem. The DVD plays fine in my PS2 but there appears to be major pixelation at times. The pixelation is similar to what happens to digital cable once in a while if you know what I mean. It gets a little blurry and jittery. If anyone can let me know what's going on I would appreciate it. I'm a newb at this stuff and my DVD collection needs to be backed up before the Disc's get too scratched. Thanks. |

If you are wanting to compress I would use CloneDVD2 instead.

CloneDVD 2 would burn better copies? I don't really try to compress the DVD's myself because i'm new at this. DVDXCOPY does it all with a push of a button. I will try CloneDVD 2 though, thanks.

clonedvd 2 is very easy to use, gives a good quality, compresses fast (well, depending on your cpu speed) and only requires 3 or 4 clicks for the whole operation.
i really recommend it. get it from www.elby.ch

DVD Shrink is good, I love using it, even though i am pretty new @ creating DVD backups. It only takes a few minutes to learn and, if you want to, you can use AnyDVD (if you have it) or, you can use DVD Decrypter and Shrink, I know Shrink is supposted to decrypt the DVD by itself but, if you have problems with a DVD then use Decrypter and Decrypt the DVD (in ISO or File mode depending on if you have a virtual drive on your PC, ISO's can be placed on Virtual Drives) Then, use Shrink to trim the movie if you want and get rid of all the junk off of the original (such as extra langs, trailers etc.) Shrink also shows you how much compression is needed to burn the DVD. I know CloneDVD 2 does that too.

Its like tryin to pour a 2 literes of soda in a 16 oz glass..... ure gonna lose some of it... in the case of DVD video... its the picture quality.... but u got all those special features that eh!
so the question really is.... is the trade off worht it??Well if your using the Platinum RF then u can go to http://forum.321studios.com and DL the TDF files ( where others users have messed with different compression rates so that u can fit the entire 8+gigs movie disk onto a 4.75gig dvd-/+R But its the "entire disk" option that is givin you problems. And if that option is selected then it takes Twice as long to burn a movie no matter what speed ure burner is. Just a quick question..... R the special features that important that u want to copy them too???

Dont always look at the special features first. With CloneDVD2 you can deselect the Movie Previews. Usually the Movie previews take up a great deal of the size of a disc too. After all previews are deselected and if your not happy with the compression of your disc then go ahead and start looking at your special features.
Another thing to look at is whether you want DTS sound or Dolby or both. Keeping both will also take up quite a bit of space. I normally just keep one. Tyler!

Good points Tyler, most people only really use one audio or the other (usually Dolby, but, not always) I would like to point out that DTS takes up almost double (from what i could tell using Shrink) the amount of space of Dolby on all the DVDs i have backed up. The newest version of AnyDVD can remove the previews (making it the main movie only) if you want it too.

Better yet, I used CloneDVD2 + AnyDVD for the first time and was impressed with the results.
