Try going through your registry looking for the painkiller entry. Use the search function (F3) and search for 'Painkiller'. That is, if you don't mind mucking around with your registry. If you don't like messing with your registry, just re-install. If you're concerned about save games, then find your save game directory and back it up.
Why do you need to change it? I find sometimes the gawd-aweful printing they use on the CD cases makes it hard to tell the difference between certain letters.
