Help ripping files (tried bbrip, dreamrip, etc.)

I've posted this on a couple of other forums, that were probably not the best place to post, hence no help. So, here's a double-post. Any help is appreciated.

FYI - I'm trying to rip a GD-ROM demo collection. I really only want one file off of it. I've tried a host of tools, to no avail.
---------------
-dc-load-ip: works fine.

-bbrip v1.0/v1.1: connects fine, lists tracks, can't download. I get a couple of different error codes. I've tried going direct dc->pc (cross cable) and through a router (straight cable, of course). I also have no list of what the error codes mean.

-dreamrip: dc-tool is a pre-compiled version. The dreamrip.bat file uses the dctool -t option to set the IP of the target BBA. The author of dreamrip goes off on some tangent, talking about using a binary editor to change the IP address in the dc-tool binary. This seems very strange to me, since the program uses the switch. Anyways, using dreamrip I cannot connect.... I guess this is why I'm supposed to change the IP in the binary?

-dctool source (linux): The author referse to sh-elf, and BFDLIB, BFDINCLUDE, etc. I have no clue what these are, and am certain they're not on my system. It will not compile, presumably b/c I don't have these libs. I did a search, but came up empty handed.

-dctool (precompiled on linux): This seems to be my best bet. I've got it to connect, and it will get data if I use the command:
dctool-ip-linux -t 192.168.1.10 -d booty.bin -s 100000000

It demands that I use a size, which I assume it uses to know when to start/stop recieving data. If I put in something around 50 megs, it will download these into a bin file. If I try 500 megs, and there's not 500 megs worth of data on the GD-ROM, it will just hang. There are two problems with this solution. 1: I don't know the size of the GD-ROM. 2: I don't know how to extract the data from the bin image. I tried a few progs like MagicISO, but they don't work.

Questions: mainly what the problems are with my PC setup. Why BBRip doesn't work, and why dc-tool on Linux won't compile.

Of course, any other pointers are more than appreciated.

Since I'm really only wanting one video file (or I guess all video files would work) I'd love a way to get a file list from the GD-ROM, but I don't believe they work that way.

EDIT: I did search, but the best I found were people that didn't know how to use dc-load-ip or people tha weren't using cross cable.

Cool

I suggest that you use Bero's dreamrip.bin, it's the best ripping tool I've found for my BBA.

about the win32 dc-tool precompiled version, don't worry about it.
You've to use the ARP command to hard-link the MAC address of your BBA with a IP.

Example: ARP -s 192.168.0.200 00-c7-e1-20-70-1b

then, you execute DC-tool, loading dreamrip.bin:

DC-TOOL.EXE -t 192.168.0.200 -x DREAMRIP.BIN

Of course, you've to load the IP-slave first in your dreamcast, then switch the disc with the GD-ROM you want to rip, and then execute dc-tool.

It's pretty easy, just give it a shot.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I've tried that (exactly) and tried it with two different dc-load-ip versions. One that loads 0.0.0.0 as the IP, and I use ARP (as you stated) and also one that does not use arp, but loads 192.168.1.XX as the IP. Either way, I can ping my Dreamcast no problem, but when I run the command above, it says "*Error using com port" or something to that effect.

This is where I downloaded it
http://www.megagames.com/console/cgi-bin/dl.cgi?id=dc&file=dreamrip201!zip

I followed the English and Japanese directions, but still couldn't get dreamrip to talk to my DC, although my PC will ping it just fine. I'm using WinXP, connecting through a router w/ straight cable, so it should be okay.

Any other ideas?

You are using the BBA adaptor right? If it's just the lan adaptor, it may not work correctly. I had many of the same problems as you, and I found out that the DC IPload needs to be configged for your specific setup using a hex editor. It has to be modified for your network info. Once I did that, everything went smooth with Dreamrip V 2.01

Good Luck

BTW if you figure out what the correct settings are for downsizing videos, I'd appreciate a message.

Yeah, I used a hex editor, and found where 000.000.000 is, and changed that to 192.168.1. Then found the next 000 and changed that to 10. When I load up dc-load-ip, it shows the IP address in hex, not a string. I'm still able to ping it though. Any comment on that?

I'm able to ping it still, but come to think of it, it's probably b/c the mac address is still ARPed.

I prefer to use bbrip 1.1. It has it's quirks, but has always worked well for me.
You said you get a list of tracks with it... if so, you're almost there.
Are you checking more than one data track to download at a time? If so, you'll get an error. It can only download one data track at a time, but it can download multiple audio tracks at once.
It may take several tries to download a track with bbrip. Sometimes you can check the track, specify a directory to download, but it will act like you did nothing. Just try it several times until it works. If it displays an error message, click reboot from the bbrip menu and then connect again.
You may have to try several times, but it's worth it.
