Actually what he was talking about is making a MP3 backup on a DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW, rather that a CD-R etc... and then playback on a standalone DVD player. According to the guys on the link in my previous post, this is 100% possible but the player must be able to playback on DVD media. It is an interesting concept, especially in regard to the storage.

In researching specs for newer DVD players, I find that most of them do offer mp3 playback.

HOWEVER, if you read the specs carefully they relate only to the playing of mp3 files on a CD inserted into the DVD player in question.

Hope someone else has a better story; I would like to be wrong about this one.

Click here to see what I have found on this subject. You do have to read it very carefully cause while it does mention both but so far I havent read anything that specifically mentions a standalone dvd player that supports mp3 playback burt to a dvd-r etc...

However, I have not skimmed through the entire search yet due to lack of free time but I have been going a little at a time.

did you try nero and selecting dvd-audio, load your files, then burn. i am not sure if this would work for mp3's on dvd-r. this may make .wav's work on dvd-r's on your dvd player.

I moderate at another forum, and 1 person tried this and said it worked for them.

Thanks for the DVD Creator link - I downloaded the 15 day Free trial version, and it works OK with the following provisos: It doesn't show the name of the music track on your DVD player as it's playing, just the DVD Creator logo. This is frustrating if you've recorded stacks of tracks - no way of knowing where/what they are.. the Support Team say..."We will show audio info on screen in future versions, please wait." So there. Also, I wanted to play back several radio shows downloaded form the net, and the sample rates aren't supported by DVD Creator. Their Support Team say... "Currently, Audio DVD Creator only supports media files recorded at 22.05kHz, 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz and 96kHz." My radio shows have a bit rate of 24kbps, so no good apparently.

Thanks also for the DVD-R tip, I might try that as well.

Peter

Bottom line.....not all DVD players will play mp3 format DVDs. Of 3 DVD players i have at home. Only my newer Poineer DV 260 will play mp3 DVDs. And thats with a max of 999 tracks. The $50 Apex one will not...just mp3 CDs. And my original Poineer does not even play mp3 CDs.(my first DVD player)

True That! Perhaps the members who have had success in MP3 playback burnt to a DVD could post their DVD player brand names / models, along with their reviews on the subject regarding maximum tracks, subtitles, etc...

I think this will be a very popular subject in the near future.

Maybe a sticky on this subject would be helpful for future interested members once we get enough feedback.

I think www.dvdrhelp.com has this sort of feature. Not exactly sure itll have dvdr mp3 playback but Im sure with a few emails they can make that happen. Doing that here would be a major project and since dvdrhelp is better set up for it, lets let them keep that glory.

@ Peter McL, I did a search for you on this subject and used the site TD recommended. Click here and here to see what your options are. I hope these 2 links are helpful.
@ Tyler, As for the sticky idea, I agree with you, that it would be a lot of work. Maybe a post labeled "MP3DVDs", (For topic search purposes) or something in that regard, with a link to your recommended site as a source of resolve, would be more helpful. Do you think that would best assist future inquiries on this subject?

That site was very helpful in my personal quest on this subject. Thanks TD!

Zillions of MP3's on a DVD

I've got about 7,000 mp3's I'd like to put on DVD. So what's the limit? Is there a fat table limit on the root folder? I'm sure my dvd player isn't going to like 1000 tracks on a dvd. Any ideas yet? I've heard that a modded PS/2 has no limits on DVD playback. Maybe I need one of them? - Joe
