Angry Help, PS2 Won't Play Newer DVD

Please Help me.....someone, My Ps2 wont play newer dvd movies. I have heard rumor that i need to download and install FIRMWARE (?). If this is the solution, than where and how, thank you to anyone who can take the time to give me knowledge, I am tired of wasting money on movie rentals and not being able to watch them.

Well first off it might be easier to help you if you gave us a little more information to work with. Like what version is you’re PS2? Is it chipped, and if so what chip? Is the DVD movie you are trying to play an original or a back-up?

Also you might want to know that the PS2 isn’t recommended for playing DVD movies. Have a look at this thread.

Ive never heard of newer firmware to allow you to play dvd movies. But ps2 lasers will go out sooner because of movies. More than likely your ps2's laser is dying.

I think your version PS2 is a V4. The V4 and earlier PS2's are known to have laser issues. Also I would have to say your fiends are BSing you about firmware they used to upgrade there unmodded console, especially if they said they downloaded it. Now if they have mod chips in the PS2's they might have done this to the mod chip. But in your situation I would have to say you are starting to see the early signs of your laser going out.
