Which DVD writer would you go for?

I am looking to buy a DVD writer and up to now peole have told me to look at the Pioneer, Lite on and Plextor.
It has to be +/- obviously if poss 8speed write or adaptable with firmware and around the £100 mark.
I'm open to any help.

Regards
Chris

Warlock is on a distinguished road
I got both, a Pioneer and a Lite-on dvd+/- burner. Both work excellent so to me its kind of a toss up.Pioneer has got a little more credability though.

Re: Which DVD writer would you go for?

My 2 Cents......... Even though I've heard numerous people refer to the Lite-on brand as cheaply made I've really never had any problem with Lite-on products until now. I just bought an 8X Lite-on DVD burner from Walmart and found out it does not work with my favorite DVD movie coping software called DVD Copy 2 . Even though I have never had a Pioneer burner yet (my other one is a TDK), I would suggest Pioneer or maybe even the Plextor unit over the Lite-on for reputation and peace of mind providing there isn't much of a price difference between the burners your thinking about.

The pioneer AO7 or 107 can be flashed with a firmware hack allowing them to burn 4x riteks at 8x speed. Hella nice if you ask me.

I have heard the pioneer AO7 or 107 can be flashed with a firmware hack that's what's tempting me!

Cheers

Im using the AO7 with the firmware hack and its been good to me. Just take note if you still have some GO3's that you wanna use, its best to manually select 2x or it may freak out a bit. Other than than burning the GO4's at 8x is hella nice.
