Can someoen explain the PS2 Independance hack?

All I know is that it has something to do with putting a special file on your memorycard and using a valid PS1 disk

But I dont know hwo to use it OR what it does, i tried googling it but got no useful info. Can anyone help me?

uh, have you read through the stuff at http://www.0xd6.org/ps2-independence.html

yet? Not exactly helpfull I know, especially with the ps2 dev terminology, which needless to say, I am not very familiar with...
