PAL4U's gone crazy

I tried to convert Chrono Cross from NTSC to PAL (after reading that it was on PAL4u's compatibilty list and it was tested fine).

I followed the instructions in the Idiot's guide to NTSC-->PAL converting. First I made a RAW bin image with CDRWin.

Then I loaded ECCRegen...didn't find anything.

After that I searched for sequences in PAL4U 2000 v1.23. I found the Y-POS and another sequence. I saved the p4u file, and applied it with p4upatch. When I reloaded ECCRegen, it found new data, and I regenerated it. Then I used gamester to make it a Euro game.

I used makeppf to create the ppf file, made a file_id.diz file and applied both of them to the image file.

But the game is still NTSC...
ePSXe says so, and my PS2 also says so.

I know that the game HAS been modified - Under the Windows Explorer file properties menu, the "Last modified" date corresponds to when I did the patching.

So after all that patching, the game is still NTSC.

Does anyone know hat has gone wrong? Have I missed a step, or should I do it in another way?

I tried the Chrono Cross patches at megagames but they don't work either.

I'm using CDRWIN for creating and burning bin files, and own a PS2 modded with a Messiah 2.

Or if this game cannot be patched, please relieve me of my misery and tell me so.

Thanks

My PS2 doesn't seem to run Importplayer at all! Even if it did, wouldn't I need to use a swap trick to get the second CD running?

ePSXe does not tell you the actual Video Mode ( That I can find anyway ). It just detects the game region. When it says PAL or NTSC detected, it can be wrong, I learned that the hard way.

Yep, I once converted a PAL game to NTSC, after converting it to NTSC using Zap2000 I opened it in ePSXe and it said it was still a PAL game. I was about to toss it in the trash, but decided to put it in my old PSX and see what would happen, It worked just fine, video displayed correct. You might want to just try using pal4u on its own and forget all that other junk you did. Once you make the .p4u file all you need to do is apply it to the ISO, at least that’s what I have found in most cases. Sometimes I needed to use PSXreg to fix the region but very seldom was that needed. You may have fixed it originally with pal4u then with all those other steps messed it back-up. After applying the .p4u patch all you should have to do is burn the patched ISO, or bin/cue. Just my thoughts give it a try and see what happens.

I did it with just p4u and it was still NTSC on my PS2. Should I try Zapper? Will I need to change the region with psxreg?

donno if it's too late but don't use zapper...worse than p4u...try all the other versions of import player and make sure the screen showing when you start the game is how the game shows it. Ex-My pal games flicker and I use import player to make my screen flicker and then hit start and it works 70% of the time!
