Booting problems...
I have tried to burn a few dreamcast images... the burning was successful and the cd was readable in the pc but when I put it in the dreamcast basically nothing happens. I've tested both discjuggler and alcohol 120%, with the same result... and I'm quite sure that the images aren't corrupt.. and that it doesn't have anything to do with utopia bootloader. Anyone have any clue?? I can only think of the cd-r brand that I'm using (Platinum and Fujifilm) that aren't compatible. Oh and by the way I've played backups on it earlier - only thing they weren't burned by me :/. Even if you don't know the answer I'd be grateful if you would tell me what burning program you use, what settings and what cd-r brand you use... Thanks in advance!!

The CDR brand doesn't matter with the DC but with your CD Writer. Certain burners are not compatible with certain CDR brands. The same goes for burning software. But since you say that the write was succesful, the CDR brand and software are not the problem (I use Discjuggler and FujiFilm discs all the time).
Check how many tracks are on the discs you made, if it's only 2 it's a selfboot disc. If it's 1 you will need a boot disc. If it's more than 2 check the first and last track to see if the have audio. If both tracks have audio, you wil need a boot disc otherwise it's a selfbooting disc. However, you might have either a corrupt or fake image. Try your CD on a different Dreamcast before you decide to get rid of it. |

yes you're probably right that the cd brand doesn't matter... I managed to get one burned game to boot but it was in bin+cue format. The booting problem has always occured when I've burned .cdi images..
Im still 99% sure the images aren't bad, they're 'original releases' and sfv checked.. Do you use discjuggler 4? If so what options do you use? Thanks in advance again

out of curiosity, what game are you trying to burn? maybe theres a different way to burn it. like the echelon method.
another option is to use cdi2nero to convert it to a nrg image and burn with nero. i could never burn cdi's with dj on my pc. cdi2nero saved my life...lol

I'm currently trying to burn Soul Fighter...
Ok... since cdi2nero worked that well I should give it a try... Anyways I'm still wonderng about the settings in discjuggler 4 - 'Audio' is default and there are alot of other options I've no idea about. |

the brand of your cdrīs doesnīt care, but the
mateials used. platinum (silver) worked for me. i never had success with blue, green or gold cdrs. but thatīs a problem of calibration. did you get scratchy noise when you insert this cdrs in your dc? other options are not important if you go over make cd_from_image but i think there are some version conflicts. No, I don't hear a scratchy noise when I insert the CD... I realized the CD brand wasn't the problem.... cause I can burn .bin games without a problem, but not .cdi games. About DJ4, so you say you just choose burn cd and dvd images and locate the file? No changing of settings? When you burn .iso, .bin, .nrg it's always mode1 or mode2, but audio is supposed to work for .cdi?

I use Discjuggler 3.5. In the advance tab under mode, I always leave it as audio. DJ4 could be your problem, I have never use version 4 but I have seen a similar problem with Nero (anything above Nero version 5.5 seems to give people a lot of problems with .nrg images)

Actually I've had that in mind also.... well that sucks cause my burner isn't supported by dj3... (nec nd1100a). What about alcohol120... any good versions of it?
