Most people here use the pioneer series of burners.

Pioneer drives are great but their firmware sucks!

If your looking to get a burner, I would wait another 3-4 weeks...

The new dual-layer burners will be in stores by then....
(Although the prices will be a little higher)

Although, if you decide to buy one now..... I personally have a Pioneer A05.. And I LOVE it..... (at least until I get my new dual-layer burner.. then I'll LOVE IT)

But i bet when the dual layer burners do come out they will be like in the $400-$500 range. Anyways is it worth it? Not, for what I use it for. I'm happy with my new A07.

.

1st, the dual layers will probably only drive the prices of the singles lower, I think.

I have a Sony DRU-510 A. The only time I made coasters is before I started ordering from meritline. Riteks and the Sony rock. And it was pretty cheap. Don't know how it compares to the Pio though. I say rock on with the Sony.

The prices are not going to be as high as I thought they would be...

You will be able to pick up a internal drive for around $200-$300 depending on brand...

Is it worth it....?

That depends on the use....

I personally get tired of waiting for a release group to release a tutorial/rip kit for dvd-9 games, and since they are showing up more frequently now, to me it would be worth the extra amount of money...

Also, instead of having to shrink/compress/ or split to 2 dvd-r, it will make movie backups much more easy also....

So for and extra amount of money, it is well worth it to me.

That is if recordable dvd9 discs are compatible with current dvd players/ps2, then yes it would be worth it.

i have a nec nd2500a. works really well.
and i've been hearing that it will be able to do dvd9 with firmware update.
now don't make sense to me for marketing thier newer drives.
could all be just rumor.
plus you can pick this drive up for $80-$95 US.

The initial reports claimed that the recordable dvd9 discs had very low reflectivity levels. This could be a prob, especially for ps2 users.
