Divx
Was there once a time when you could buy DIVX cd's in the store? If so, what was needed to play them, such as what type of hardware? Is it possible to burn a divx movie to cd and play it in my home dvd player without converting it to mpeg and burning as VCD/SVCD? Thanx in advance.

There was never a time. DVD's were here before divx. Divx is a codec for compressing large movies (like dvds) down to a much lower size, keeping a very high quality.

Not entirely true Quall, there was another Technology called DivX before that Codec where, like scott says, you could buy/rent movies on that format. I didnt know about this until I read about it on another forum. Cant be bothered to look for the link at the moment.... Google is your Friend
