V7 Strange Fault Any Ideas?

I fitted a ripper chip to a V7 all worked fine for a few days then
it stopped playing DVD-r and just gave the red screen of death
Checked all the wiring could not find any problem fitted a new laser still wont read DVD-r
so removed the ripper and fitted DUO again all fine for a few days then exactly the same wont red DVD-r
removed chip again plays original fine
i then fitted the ripper to a V5 3 weeks on all working fine
i then fitted the Duo to a different V7 all working fine
has anyone had this before it would seem to be a rogue V7 that just wont stay modded for more than a few days
any ideas??

wtf man! i dont get that it should be ok. Try looking at the cd dvd controller. Did you use correct wire? Also the laser might be something to do with it.

Thats why i can't get my head round what its doing
i thought ok 1st chip worked fine for week then stopped playing dvd-r maybe a loose wire couldn't find a wireing fault so change the chip for a duo again about a week later wont read dvd-r
tried new laser didn't fix it so fitted both chips to different ps2 both work fine
it realy does seem to be this V7 doesn't like chips
