Playback

I have a little question.
Is it a common thing that movies skips and / or freezes and even can't be played in a PS2?
I have some problems with with some of my movies.
I use same media as I use for my PS2 game backups and it is RitekG04.

The freezing / skipping part is ot the end of the discs I guess.
et least the last 1/4 of the disc.
I know that it is harder for the burners to get a good burn on the end of discs.

Is there any program out that can check how good the burner can go on the disc?

By the way, I never had any problems with my PS2 backups...only with my movies..
Some movie backups wont play at all in my PS2 but plays just fine in the burner and in my grandpa external DVD player.

Is it just that my v5 sucks at dvd playback?
It shouldn't be the laser when my PS2 backups runs just like the originals.

Yes it sounds like your laser might be a little tiered. Also just because it plays PS2 DVD back-ups perfectly doesn’t mean it will play DVD movies back-ups perfectly. You see, when playing a DVD movie in your PS2 the laser is working 100% of the time, and has to read every little bit perfect the first time or it will appear to freeze of skip. Now with the PS2 DVD games the laser doesn’t work as much. That’s why you see the loading screen when you start a new level or area or whatever. The PS2's laser is only reading what it needs and storing it in a temporary memory while you play( this is also why you can eject the game and still be able to play until the next time the laser is called to read the disc), and if it has trouble reading it the first time it reads, since its data and not a movie file, it will go back and try and read it again to see it can get it the second time and refocuses it self, thus you wont see any skipping or freezing unless the disk is really bad or the laser is really bad. Also about this problem happening out at the edge of the disc comes to no surprise as this is where the PS2 laser reading becomes the most unstable from the disk wobbling and the disc is actually turning faster out there. Blah blah blah......

You might be able to adjust the laser but unless you are confident with your skills with electronics you might not want to attempt this as you might do more harm then good. I would recommend not playing DVD movies on your PS2 any way as it eats up the lasers life span and the PS2 is a crappy DVD player get your self a cheap Toshiba DVD player at Wally mart for your DVD movie needs and save your PS2 for games only.

Ok, I can add that it has acted like this from the beginning...It has never played movies good...

Well, I'm off to see if I can find a player that fits my economy right now then...

Go get an Apex for $50-$60. They play backups great.

Take a look at www.netonnet.se They sell Mustek-Players for round about 700 Skr. And it will play DVD+/-R and RW as well and MP3-Capability.

Hope this will help.
